PRIMARY PURPOSE
Assist schools in the development of appropriate educational plans for students by conducting full individual evaluations, providing direct/indirect therapy to students with articulation, language, fluency, and voice disorders; and conducting and/or participating in ARD meetings for students
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Certification:
Master's Degree in speech-language pathology Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech-Language Pathology - Preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Skill in the use of tests and measurements for assessing speech-language disorders Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech, language, and hearing disorders Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Strong consultation and conflict-resolution skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students Ability to operate computer/peripherals using a variety of basic applications Ability to effectively use district programs with reasonable assistance
Minimum Experience:
Speech-language pathology experience or graduate practicum experience in the schools - Preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES
Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech/language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP) Select and administer assessments and observations to evaluate speech or language disordersin students to determine student eligibility for special education services as part of a multi-disciplinary team according to federal and state regulations Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee regarding interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with speech and/or language disorders according to district procedures Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services. Counsel and involve parents in the remedial process Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom-based activities to improve communication in the classroom Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel in the identification and understanding of students with communication deficits Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required Comply with departmental SHARS reporting requirements Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors Effectively communicate with colleagues, other school personnel, students and parents Take the initiative and participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment
SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITIES
Qualified SLPs might supervise/mentor speech-language pathologist interns, speech-language pathologist assistants, and/or speech-language pathologist graduate students
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

Mental Demands:
Maintain professionalism with all staff. Maintain emotional control and objectivity under stress. Perform tasks with frequent interruptions. Prolonged and careful attention to detail.

Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to the supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
