210 GENERAL SUMMARY Under general supervision, provides comprehensive speech-language pathology services to students to support communication development and academic success. Assesses, identifies, and treats speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders, while collaborating with staff and families to ensure students acquire the communication skills necessary for success in school and life.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Conducts comprehensive speech-language evaluations for initial referrals and reevaluations in accordance with federal, state, and District guidelines and best practices. Develops, implements, and monitors individualized speech-language therapy plans for students identified with communication disorders. Provides direct and indirect speech-language therapy services to students in individual and group settings. Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team in eligibility determination, IEP development, and placement decisions. Maintains accurate and timely documentation including evaluation reports, therapy logs, progress reports, Medicaid billing (if applicable), and IEP documentation. Collaborates with teachers, administrators, and other support staff to implement strategies that support student communication needs within the classroom. Provides consultation to general and special education teachers regarding speech and language strategies, accommodations, and interventions. Assists in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and ensures compliance with all timelines and procedural safeguards. Screens students to identify those who may require further evaluation for speech-language services. Provides training and resources to staff and parents to support student communication development. Serves as a liaison between the school, families, and outside agencies or service providers. Assists with transition planning for students moving between grade levels or programs. Supports students with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) needs. Monitors and maintains speech-language equipment and materials. Assists in ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations related to special education services. Participates in professional development and stays current with best practices in speech-language pathology. Willingly performs other related duties as assigned or requested.JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders from an accredited college or university. Valid state certification/licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred or eligibility to obtain. Must meet all requirements set forth by the South Carolina Department of Education.Knowledge:
Knowledge of speech, language, and communication disorders and appropriate therapeutic interventions. Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing special education and related services. Knowledge of evaluation tools, treatment methodologies, and assistive communication technologies. Understanding of IEP processes, documentation requirements, and compliance standards. Knowledge of child development and the impact of communication disorders on academic performance.Skills/Effort:
Ability to assess, diagnose, and treat speech and language disorders effectively. Ability to interpret and apply federal and state regulations. Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, parents, and staff. Ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple responsibilities. Ability to operate general office and specialized therapy equipment.Working Conditions:
School environment with minimal exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Requires the ability to work under moderate stress related to deadlines and student needs. Physical demands include movement throughout school buildings and occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds. Occasional local travel required; occasional overnight travel may be required.Responsibility:
May supervise speech-language pathology assistants, interns, or practicum students (if applicable).TERM OF EMPLOYMENT
