Job Description

Job Summary:
Responsible for evaluation, planning, directing, and administering speech language, communication, voice, and swallowing therapy treatment. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. The speech language pathologist coordinates and communicates with interdisciplinary team, to carry out effective outcomes when appropriate. Ensures that patient changes are accurate and entered on a timely basis. Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety, and fire safety programs. Committed to excellence through the continuous improvement of the quality of services delivered. Creates and maintains a culture to continuously improve patient and employee satisfaction. Job Description Responsible for the direction and communicate of modification and strategies for inpatient/swing bed patient's deficits to promote independence and safety Evaluates and creates a written Plan of Care (POC) that meets the patient's needs. Performs and completes an appropriate written assessment of all patients that are referred to speech therapy in all populations; neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Creates POC and follow the payor source guidelines to ensure proper billing of each payor source. Manages the POC and its goals to meet the individual's needs. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the development of the POC. Educates patient, family and caregivers about the POC to increase patient outcomes and achieve their goals and success in therapy.
Demonstrates knowledge of modalities:
benefits, precautions, and contraindications for use on patients. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, socio-economical and/or religious/spiritual needs of all patients and their families. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly; requests education about new equipment. Interacts professionally with Interdisciplinary Team and Colleagues in order to create teamwork to increase patient outcomes. Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and administrative team. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients' needs are met, payor source guidelines and hospital policies are followed. Maintains records pertinent to the operation of the department. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, to be organized and to function under stressful situations.
Regulatory Requirements:
Current State Occupational Therapy Licensure, graduate of an approved school of Occupational Therapy or graduate of accredited college or university with a certificate in Occupational Therapy. Current BCLS (CPR) certification.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred. Strong written and verbal skills.
Skills:
Basic computer knowledge Knowledge of physical medicine, physical agent modalities, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology Knowledge of physical agent modalities operation, physical agent precautions and contraindications, maintenance and safety of equipment.
