EMPLOYMENT BEGINS

PRIMARY PURPOSE
To improve the structure and organization of speech and language in those students identified as deficient in communication skills. To eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with the students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Possess knowledge of various communication disorders. Knows American Sign Language Demonstrate excellent communication (verbal and written), public relation, and interpersonal skills. Exhibit flexibility in managing large caseloads and possible assignments to multiple campuses. Possess knowledge of job restrictions for the position of Licensed Therapist. Ability to use accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions. Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions. Ability to instruct and manage student behavior.
EXPERIENCE
One year of supervised clinical speech-language pathology experience. None beyond specific certification required by the state. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Implement a plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Program (IEP). Demonstrated ability to work on a team. Consistently documenting student performance through session notes and progress towards goal. Confer with each student's teacher regarding the speech/language disorder. Maintain attendance records of therapy sessions for each student. Keep abreast of new developments in the field by reading journals and publications and/for attending professional meetings. Maintain license through accrual of appropriate Speech/Language Continuing Education Units. Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrative Officer of Special Education. Conduct evaluations to assess students for speech and/or language disorders and conditions to determine the presence of a disability. Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services. Other School Health and Related Services (SHARS) duties as assigned Perform other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May direct and monitor the work of speech-language pathology assistant(s), speech aides, or SLP's
CFY WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands:
Withstanding pressure of meeting stringent time constraints and other issues related to professional practice within the public schools as opposed to private practice. Handling disagreements in a professional manner. Maintain emotional control under stress.
Physical demands/environmental factors:
In-District travel(if applicable) Lifting and transporting testing materials on a regular basis. Working with 3 year olds requires the ability to work on the floor. Lifting and/or moving students during therapy. Using precautions regarding student's bodily fluids and/or communicable diseases during therapy.
