Be responsible for the evaluation and rehabilitation of patients of all ages with communication and oral-pharyngeal disorders of functional or neurological origin in order to facilitate the development and maintenance of human communication and swallowing ability. Document findings, progress and instruction to patients and caregivers. Assist speech pathologists with program development. Provide training and guidance to students, interns, and other staff. Assume responsibility in the care of the patient. Perform complete, comprehensive evaluation of patients with a physicians referral. Accurately interpret evaluation findings. Complete a written plan of care, develop goals based on evaluation findings, and develop a comprehensive program to attain goals. Implement a speech/language pathology treatment program. Reassess patient status and alter treatment goals, plan, and program as needed. Communicate effectively with patients and family. Communicate effectively with professional colleagues. Present relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty. Document appropriately in the medical record and completes other documentation duties accurately and efficiently. Serve as clinical instructor for Speech interns. Ensure safe care of patients, staff, and visitors; adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service. Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; support department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
