This role decontaminates instruments and equipment to hospital and regulatory guidelines. Assembles and wraps trays for sterilization following procedures and loads and operates sterilizers. Uses knowledge of instrumentation blood and body fluid precautions, disinfection techniques, and methods of sterilization to performs quality assurance monitoring. Documents according to policy and procedures. This role is also responsible for providing coordination and assembly of surgery case carts. Accurately completes inventory lists for trays and surgeon preference cards, signs, and dates. Reviews instrument and inventory supplies, restocks, proactively identifies supply/instrumentation needs, gathering of supplies needed for a specific case, and assists with O.R. sterilization processes. Knowledge of supplies, instrumentation, disinfection techniques, and methods of sterilization. Performs other duties as assigned. Additionally, the Instrument Technician Lead Certified serves as the point person on each shift, prioritizes tasks and coordinates the assembly of surgery case carts. Performs complex task and trains and new employees acting as educator to other techs. Completes expert-level trays and assist in process changes and process improvement initiatives in the department. May handle scheduling shift coverage. Education and Experience Minimum 2 years experience in Sterile Processing required. Knowledge of surgical terminology, instrumentation, and supplies. Basic computer skills. Sterile processing and Case Cart experience. High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Certifications Required Either:
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST); or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech (CBSPD) Certifications Preferred CIS, CER, CHL, or other advanced Sterile Processing certifications (role dependent)
