Job Description

The Sterile Processing Manager is a Registered Nurse or CRCST/Scrub Technician who sets criteria for the quality of patient care on the clinical unit, assesses patients' needs and plans for the individualized care of patients using specialized knowledge and skills and evaluates the outcomes and interventions. The incumbent participates in a variety of role dimensions; provider of care, educator, consultant, researcher, and manager. The person in this position may also perform the duties of a SPD Technologist. This individual also directs and guides patient care activities of ancillary personnel and other patient care personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing practice, works collaboratively with a variety of Health Professionals, provides for a safe, clean and organized environment for patients and families, and utilizes effective organizational, decision and problem solving skills in own practice and when supervising others. This person is responsible for the hospital Sterile Processing Departments; both Baptist and Gulf Breeze campuses. This person serves as the expert consultant for the organization's practices on high level disinfection. Minimum Education Associates Degree Nursing Required Technical Diploma/Certificate Surgical Technology Required Minimum Work Experience 5 years operating Room Nursing leadership experience dealing with major inpatient and outpatient surgery with demonstrated competency Required Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state Upon Hire Required or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCS) Upon Hire Required Instrument and Sterile Processing Technician (WSPT_NHWA) Upon Hire Required BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, equipment and supply management and decontamination of equipment with demonstrated competency, Ability to read and understand the English Language Strong attention to detail, organizational and follow through skills. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Sterile Processing Department as defined in the scope of service to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed. Perform other related duties as required such as: examining sterilization/expiration dates; reporting inoperable equipment; making visual inventory inspections to maintain adequate stock and supply level; test effectiveness of sterilizer function by assembling and placing culture spore tests following procedure; store new and reprocessed equipment and supplies; clean shelves and work areas and mop liquid spills from floors as necessary. Functions as a role model for current and new surgical staff. Responsible for the departmental staffing and resource management - utilization of FTEs - all facets. Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development. Is responsible for department's operational excellence; ensures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards. Manage team members which include orientation, development and evaluation of personnel, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services. Participates in the recruiting, interviewing and selecting of team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws. Evaluates their performance relative to job goals and requirements. Provides coaching to staff, recommends in-service education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards. Is responsible for the fiscal management of department; assures proper utilization of organization's financial resources. Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff. Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization. May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
