Description:
JOB DESCRIPTION
Manages the activities of Sterile Processing and Distribution Departments to ensure quality service. Oversees daily operations and direct services to provide quality and timely delivery of all surgical instruments for cases scheduled. Delegates work assignments to personnel when needed. Assists employees with daily operations of the SPM Microsoft Instrument Computer Tracking system for Distribution and Prep/Pack Assembly. Directs and monitors preparation and maintenance of related charts and records. Seeks opportunities to maximize cost savings. Organizes all areas of SPD work proficiently. Promotes and maintains effective interdepartmental relations with medical and nursing staff. Organizes inventory control and ordering supplies. Acts as purchasing agent for Surgical Services. Organizes time, supplies, and equipment efficiently and effectively. Collaborates with the Operating Room to provide quality care and supplies for patient care. Manages departmental staff within established budget to facilitate effective services as follows: Interviews, selects, trains, and supervises departmental staff. Evaluates performance, making recommendations for personnel actions and motivation of employees to achieve superior performance. Oversees time and attendance coordination for assigned staff, including monitoring overtime and productivity. Assists in budget development and monitors departmental budget. Ensures appropriate provision and utilization of departmental resources. Actively participates in setting, monitoring and achieving goals for the department. Promotes and facilitates continuous quality improvement activities and teams.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an Accredited Professional School of Nursing RN preferred. Five years experience as a surgical tech or SPD tech required. At least 1 year of management or leadership experience required. Surgical Technician or Sterile Processing Technician certification required. If RN, must have a valid, active license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board. Knowledge of regulatory standards, sterilization decontamination process and standards, and SPM Microsoft instrument computer tracking preferred. Must have exceptional communication skills and able to build team environment to support surgical services. Must be surgically oriented, technically skilled.
