? A Sterile Processing Technician, also known as an Instrument Technician or Central Service Technician plays a crucial role in our Cataract and Laser Center by ensuring that medical instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized and maintained for patient safety. The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, sterilization and maintenance of surgical instruments, medical equipment, and other reusable items used in healthcare settings. They work closely with surgical teams, nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure the availability of sterile instruments for medical procedures. High school diploma or equivalent Previous surgery center experience preferred Knowledge of infection control principles and techniques Ability to follow standard operating procedures and protocols Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Good communication and interpersonal skills Physically able to stand on feet for long periods of time Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) Certification, or ability to complete within 12 months of hire Demonstrates knowledge of the organization, structure, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of North Idaho Cataract and Laser Adherence to the utmost infection prevention standards in compliance with CDC, AORN, and APIC recommendations Knows fundamentals of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and sterilization procedures Basic knowledge of principles of aseptic, sterile technique, surgical procedures, and how to use and take care of equipment Ability to establish effective communications with doctors, patients, and staff Knowledge of job descriptions of those personnel with whom he/she shares patient care Able to analyze own performance and seek guidance from others Demonstrates ability to obtain information on current trends and developments in sterile processing, outpatient surgery, and ophthalmology care Knowledge of environmental controls, and company disaster and emergency policies and procedures Knowledge of effective interpersonal relationships
Key Responsibilities:
Decontamination:
Obtain used medical instruments and equipment from various departments. Disassemble and clean instruments to remove contaminants and debris. Use appropriate cleaning solutions and equipment to ensure thorough decontamination.
Inspection and Assembly:
Inspect instruments for damage or defects and report any issues. Assemble instrument trays and sets according to established protocols. Ensure all assembled sets are complete and ready for sterilization.
Sterilization:
Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ensuring proper settings and procedures. Monitor and record sterilization cycles and parameters. Perform routine maintenance on sterilization equipment.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes and equipment maintenance. Document any deviations from standard procedures and report them to the appropriate personnel.
Inventory Management:
Monitor and manage inventory levels of sterile supplies and instruments. Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure adequate stock.
Communication:
Communicate effectively with healthcare staff regarding instrument availability and status. Collaborate with surgical teams to address specific instrument needs for upcoming procedures.
Quality Control:
Adhere to infection control and quality assurance standards. Participate in audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
