A Surgical Assistant assists in operations, under the supervision of surgeons. May, in accordance with state laws, help surgeons to make incisions and close surgical sites, manipulate or remove tissues, implant surgical devices or drains, suction the surgical site, place catheters, clamp or cauterize vessels or tissue, and apply dressings to surgical site.

Job Description To provide anatomic pathology services under the direction and supervision of a pathologist. To interact with pathologists in the gross examination of surgical pathology specimens. To perform all aspects of tissue prosection of specimens. To assist the pathologist with intraoperative consultations. To maintain an adequate inventory of supplies, reagents and solutions to ensure uninterrupted workflow in the grossing and intraoperative consultation areas. To perform special techniques such as bone decalcification along with utilizing and maintaining photography and imaging instruments. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Allied Health Science or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
