Job Description

Job Summary A highly regarded plastic surgery practice in Sarasota is seeking an experienced Surgical First Assistant to assist during cosmetic surgical procedures. The ideal candidate is a Certified Surgical First Assistant with strong suturing skills and previous plastic surgery experience. We will also consider a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with at least three years of hands-on surgical first assist and suturing experience specifically within plastic surgery. This position requires excellent surgical skills as well as an upbeat, friendly, and professional personality. The right candidate will work well with the surgeon and clinical team while helping provide a safe, positive, and exceptional experience for every patient. Responsibilities Assist the surgeon during plastic surgery procedures Perform first assist duties, including retraction, suctioning, tissue handling, hemostasis, and suturing Provide skilled and efficient surgical wound closure Anticipate the surgeon's needs throughout each procedure Help prepare surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies Maintain strict sterile and aseptic technique Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and transfer Support the clinical team with appropriate preoperative and postoperative responsibilities Follow all practice policies, safety standards, and infection-control protocols Contribute to a friendly, supportive, and team-oriented surgical environment Qualifications Certified Surgical First Assistant strongly preferred Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners will also be considered with at least three years of plastic surgery first assist and suturing experience Plastic surgery experience strongly preferred Strong suturing and surgical closure skills required Thorough understanding of sterile technique and operating room safety Ability to anticipate the surgeon's needs and work efficiently during procedures Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety Upbeat, friendly, dependable, and professional Excellent communication and teamwork skills Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced surgical environment Current certifications and licensure appropriate to the candidate's credentials Schedule This is a part-time position averaging approximately 25 to 35 hours per week. The schedule is based on the surgical calendar, so flexibility is required.
