Job Description

Hiring Department Surgical Innovation Lab University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Medicine For more information about the UMKC School of Medicine and the SurgiLab, visit: https://research.umkc.edu/surgilab UMKC is rated R1 by the Carnegie Research Classification of Institutions of Higher Education Job Description The Surgical Innovation Lab ("SurgiLab") is dedicated to improving surgical safety and education by addressing errors through innovative techniques, communication research, and human factors analysis. The ideal candidate will have excellent time management and organizational abilities, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a bachelor's degree in STEM or another relevant field.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct research on surgical performance, safety, and education (including simulation-based experiments) Submit and manage Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications and amendments Record and analyze audio and video data in operating rooms Conduct interviews with surgical staff and transcribe qualitative data Design and implement research protocols and experimental studies Organize and maintain secure databases and participant information Code behavioral and observational data for analysis Create visuals including tables, diagrams, and research posters Perform literature reviews and assist with manuscript and abstract preparation and grant submissions Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to meet evolving research goals Assist with clinical trial tasks including data collection and administrative responsibilities Assist with supervision of Medical Student Research Elective Select administrative duties As the job evolves the Research Assistant is expected to complete other research related duties as needed and assigned that may not be specifically listed above. This is a 12 month, full-time, benefit eligible, unranked/non-tenure track academic position
Qualifications Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM, behavioral science, or health-related field Familiarity with research design and methodologies Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Time management and organizational skills Problem-solving abilities
Preferred Experience:
Audio/Video editing (Adobe Premiere Pro or Similar) Experience with survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics, REDCap) Experience working in clinical environments or with interdisciplinary teams Anticipated Hiring Range The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $20.00 - $22.00/hourly. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
