POSITION DESCRIPTION
Suffolk County Community College is the largest community college in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, enrolling more than 26,000 students at its three campuses in Selden, Brentwood, and Riverhead, as well as its Culinary Arts Center in Riverhead. Established in 1959, the college offers a wide array of transfer-oriented associate degrees in the liberal arts and sciences; business; communications and the arts; computing and cybersecurity; health sciences; and many other areas. Career-facing degrees and certificates are offered in allied health professions, automotive technology, culinary and baking, manufacturing, and many other areas. The college provides high school concurrent enrollment opportunities to thousands of students each year through both Suffolk's Beacon program and through on-campus early college classes. Designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic Serving Institution, Suffolk enrolls thousands of students in English Language Learning courses, and also serves more service veterans and military-connected students than any other college in the SUNY system. SUNY Suffolk is searching for a full-time (10-month), tenure track Professional Assistant (PA) for Surgical Technology beginning Fall 2026, at the Michael J. Grant campus in Brentwood, NY. This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the college. The position responsibilities focus on education, supervision, and evaluation of students in clinical and classroom settings. The PA will collaborate with the clinical site managers, the Schedule Coordinators and/or the Educational Coordinators for the Operating Room. Faculty are scheduled to teach based on the needs of students and their department, and may have the option to teach in different course preps in more than one modality.
Job Responsibilities:
Coordinate clinical education Provide administration, organization, and supervision of student clinical experience Ensure documentation of the evaluation and progression of clinical performance leading to clinical competence Provide continuous quality review and improvement of student clinical experience Provide academic oversight, including curriculum planning and development of student clinical experience Ensure orientation to the program's requirements of the personnel who supervise or instruct students and clinical sites Coordinate the assignments of students to clinical sites. Responsibilities may include didactic and laboratory instruction (in addition to clinical instruction) and direction and guidance of clinical instructors. The Professional Assistant for Surgical Technology will be required to travel to multiple clinical sites within Suffolk and Nassau counties as well as the NYC Metro Area.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications:
Minimum An Associate Degree from a regionally accredited institution. Possession of a current national certificate issued by the Nation Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) as a CST. Three (3) years of experience either in the operating room scrub role, or as an instructor the in surgical technology field, or supervising students in a clinical rotation setting, or a combination of the three areas within the past five years. Preferred The ability to manage students within clinical experiences.

This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the college.
