Job Description

Job Description Searching for a highly-motivated Surgical Technician to join our ambulatory surgery center team. The Surgical Technologist is responsible for preparing the operating room and sterile field for surgical procedures by ensuring that surgical equipment is functioning properly and safely; by preparing sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment using sterile technique; anticipating the needs of the surgical team based on knowledge of human anatomy and pathophysiology and how they relate to the surgical patient and the patient's procedure.
Essential Duties:
  • Set up a sterile environment, and maintain the sterile field for the patient during procedures
  • Decontaminate instruments
  • Operation of autoclaves
  • Utilize correct body mechanics in moving, transporting, and positioning patients, stretchers, and/or tables in order to prevent injury to patient and personnel
  • Demonstrate surgical asepsis and utilize sterile technique
  • Participate in orientation and education on an ongoing basis
  • Participate in stocking and restocking medical supplies Qualifications for
Surgical Technologist:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Certification as a surgical technologist preferred
  • Experience in pain management, Vascular, and Cath Lab Procedures
  • 2 years experience working as a surgical technologist
  • Current Basic Life Support certificate required
  • Ability to interact comfortably with a high volume of patients, physicians, and staff in a stressful environment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment and supplies located in the operating room
Core Functions:
  • Prepares for surgical procedures. Pulls appropriate instruments and supplies and ensures good working order of instruments. Reviews case carts for correct instruments and supplies. Plans ahead for upcoming surgical case needs.
  • Anticipates the surgeon's needs. Passes instruments, retracts tissue and operates equipment during a surgery.
  • Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure. Disposes of sharps and trash and places used supplies into case cart for processing. Participates in counting of sharps, instruments, and sponges. Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case.
  • Ensures that all surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate.
  • Assists with OR turnover between cases. Participates in stocking, replenishing supplies and cleaning operating rooms.
  • Follows safety procedures in regards to medication labeling, appropriate handling of specimens, appropriate handling of sharps, time-out procedure, radiation and laser safety, infection control, and assembling and disassembling instruments.
