SUMMARY :
Provides a variety of skilled tasks involving control, maintenance, and availability of equipment and supplies for the Operating Room. Serves as a lead over a defined specialty. Assists management in monitoring levels and scheduling of non-nursing technicians and clerical staff. May provide guidance and instruction to other surgical and or technician staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: Performs clinical duties of Surgical Technician. Creates and updates an accurate, centralized log of department equipment and surgical instruments. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies. Prepares and tracks purchase orders for special items and equipment. Maintains and updates Charge Master. Ensures the proper functioning of equipment and/or schedules repairs, referring unusual problems to Manager. Prepares rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment. Participates in evaluation of new and replacement products. Participates in the orientation and education of personnel and provides informal guidance; adjusts staffing to meet needs and provides adequate coverage of unit. Serves as technical support for laser surgery requirements, if applicable. Adjusts staffing to meet needs and provide adequate coverage of unit; consults with Clinical Nurse Leader or Manager when determining staffing needs. Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards. Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
High school diploma or
GED. EXPERIENCE
: One (1) year of surgical assistance experience required.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION
: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Surgical Technician Certification highly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
: Knowledge of surgical assist procedures and best practices. Knowledge of laser surgery regulations and best practices. Skill in the sterilization and set up for different surgical procedures. Skill in providing assistance and leading and guiding other staff. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence. Ability to listen and accurately interpret others' communication or instructions to take appropriate action. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
