This dual-function role includes assisting in the operating room as a scrub tech/circulator and ensuring all surgical instruments and equipment are cleaned, sterilized, and prepared to the highest standards. The position is essential to patient safety, infection control, and efficient procedural flow. Essential Duties & Responsibilities In the Operating Room Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, and supplies before procedures. Scrub, gown, and glove according to sterile technique. Assist surgeons and OR staff during pain management procedures (e.g., injections, nerve blocks, minor spine procedures). Maintain a sterile field and enforce infection prevention standards. Pass instruments, sutures, and supplies to the surgical team as needed. Assist with patient positioning, room turnover, and procedural setup. In Sterile Processing (SPD) Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment per ASC protocols. Conduct routine inventory checks; restock trays, carts, and supplies. Maintain accurate sterilization and tracking documentation. Troubleshoot and report instrument or equipment issues. Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, and infection-control standards.
General / Administrative
Support quality improvement and safety initiatives within the ASC. Document accurately in EMR and/or inventory systems. Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, RNs, and ASC staff. Participate in continuing education and staff training.
Qualifications Education:
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
Licensure/Certification:
CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) required or equivalent. SPD certification (CRCST or equivalent) preferred. BLS certification required. ACLS certification required.
Experience:
Prior operating room experience preferred. Sterile processing/central supply experience highly desirable. Experience in pain management or ASC procedures a plus.
Skills:
Knowledge of sterile technique, instruments, and OR procedures. Ability to operate sterilization equipment and follow SPD standards. Strong attention to detail, organization, and infection control. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Excellent teamwork and communication skills. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Outpatient ASC specializing in pain management procedures. Prolonged standing, walking, bending, and lifting required. Exposure to sharps, body fluids, and sterilization chemicals. Must respond quickly and appropriately in urgent or emergent situations.
