The Surgical technician will perform a variety of tasks that helps the Surgery Department provide care for our patients. This position is an essential element of the office, creating and maintaining a comfortable and calming environment for our surgical patients. This individual must maintain a positive "can-do" attitude when working collaboratively with all other staff members in the office. They must demonstrate the core values and mission of the organization, Chico Eye Center, and must always treat our patients, employees, and Doctors with the utmost care and respect. Duties Patient Interaction and Counseling 1. Discuss the ophthalmologist's diagnosis, management, results, and treatment plan with patients and their families. 2. Provide pre-operative and post-operative instructions and support. 3. Answer all telephone inquiries from patients, their families, or primary care physicians concerning surgery or related concerns. Scheduling and Coordination 1. Schedule all patient surgeries and pre-operative appointments, including those with the patient's primary care physician, surgical facility, ophthalmologist, or technician. 2. Schedule post-operative appointments following surgeries. 3. Prepare and communicate authorization status and financial estimates to patients 4. Notify patients of all scheduled appointments. Pre-Operative Duties 4. Set up instruments and equipment required for procedures 5. Sterilize equipment and ensure an adequate supply for surgery 6. Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning and draping 7. Ensure that all equipment is in working order 8. Report and troubleshoot all broken or defective supplies or equipment 9. Provide emotional support to patients throughout the surgical process Intra-Operative Duties 5. Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and supplies 6. Monitor patient vital signs and report any abnormalities 7. Maintain a sterile environment throughout the procedure Post-Operative Duties 1. Assist in transferring patients to the recovery area 2. Clean and restock the operating room 3. Document surgical procedures and patient information Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program is preferred 2. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), Ophthalmic Surgical Processor (OSP) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) credential is preferred 3. Minimum of one year of experience in a surgical setting, with at least one year of expertise in the surgical specialty of ophthalmology or related field 4. Strong knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques 5. Proficiency in medical records management and HIPAA regulations 6. Familiarity with electronic medical record systems is preferred

$20.00 - $23.00 per hour
