Surgical Technologist —
Near La Quinta, CA Education Required:
High school diploma, GED, or higher; completion of an accredited Surgical Technology training program
Licensure/Certification Required:
BLS (American Heart Association)
Preferred:
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
Experience Preferred:
Surgical Technologist experience in an acute multi-specialty environment Summary Performs the duties of a scrub person; prepares supplies for each case, sets up and maintains the sterile field, passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon, and readies used instruments for cleaning and re-sterilization. Responsibilities Maintains aseptic technique per Surgical Services policies and procedures Anticipates surgeon's needs by reviewing preference cards and procuring supplies ahead of case start Maintains an orderly instrument table and surgical field Verifies and labels medications and irrigations on the back table with the nurse Maintains and documents accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the nurse Accurately identifies surgical specimens and transfers them to the nurse Prepares instruments for cleaning and re-sterilization Assists with supply restocking and room turnover Contributes to efficient surgical line-up to support on-time starts Uses judgment in opening/using supplies to support cost-effectiveness Stays current on intraoperative techniques and equipment via ongoing education Participates in department projects Works within scope of practice; may be required to work at alternate sites
