Job Description
Surgical Technician - Labor & Delivery (Per Diem, Night Shift) We are seeking experienced Surgical Technicians to support a high-acuity Labor & Delivery unit on a per diem basis. This role is ideal for candidates who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about supporting safe and effective surgical care.
Schedule:
Night Shift | 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM Key Responsibilities Prepare and maintain a sterile field for surgical procedures Assist the surgical team during obstetric procedures, including cesarean deliveries Handle and pass surgical instruments accurately and efficiently Ensure proper sterilization and functionality of all instruments and equipment Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond promptly Perform accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments Support patient care activities under the direction of the RN when not in the OR Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including nursing and pharmacy Follow all infection control and safety protocols Assist with triaging and urgent (STAT) support as needed Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required Minimum of 1+ year of recent surgical technician experience (Labor & Delivery strongly preferred) Experience in a hospital setting required (internship/externship experience alone will not be considered) BLS certification (American Heart Association) required Knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical instrumentation Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed Preferred Qualifications Experience in a high-volume Labor & Delivery environment Surgical Technologist certification (CST) preferred Familiarity with EMR systems Bilingual skills are a plus Work Environment & Culture Collaborative, team-oriented environment Strong emphasis on communication, accountability, and patient-centered care Candidates should be proactive, reliable, and adaptable Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Long Beach, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
