Job Description
Surgical Technician - Orthopedic & Spine The Surgery Center of Long Beach is seeking an experienced Surgical Technician with a strong background in orthopedic and spine surgery to join our growing ambulatory surgery center. This position is ideal for a skilled surgical technologist who thrives in a fast-paced operating room and is committed to delivering exceptional patient care. Position Summary The Surgical Technician is responsible for preparing the operating room, maintaining a sterile field, anticipating the surgeon's needs, and ensuring all instruments, implants, and equipment are available for orthopedic and spine procedures. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in complex orthopedic instrumentation and spine cases and works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Prepare operating rooms for orthopedic and spine procedures, ensuring all instruments, implants, and equipment are available and functioning properly. Establish and maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures. Scrub and assist surgeons during orthopedic and spine cases by passing instruments, implants, and supplies. Demonstrate knowledge of orthopedic power equipment, drills, saws, and specialty instrumentation. Assist with implant management, including verification of implants, documentation, and inventory control. Perform surgical counts with the circulating nurse according to policy. Assist with patient positioning while maintaining patient safety and preventing pressure injuries. Turn over operating rooms efficiently between cases. Maintain compliance with infection prevention standards, OSHA regulations, and facility policies. Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and vendor representatives. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program. Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification preferred. Current BLS certification required. Minimum of two years of recent scrub experience in orthopedic and spine surgery required. Experience with total joints, arthroscopy, trauma, and minimally invasive spine procedures preferred. Experience handling orthopedic implants and specialty instrumentation. Strong knowledge of sterile technique and operating room protocols. Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills. Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume ambulatory surgery center.
