Job Description

MCH is accepting application for a surgical technician or LPN who has been specifically trained for the surgical area in the hospital. He/she works directly under the supervision of the OR supervisor, RN, or physician. This benefits eligible full-time position would work Monday through Friday (40 hours) with rotating on-call hours. He/she must be accurate and rapid in preparations. He/she must be acutely aware and observant of sterile technique and location and purpose of all equipment located in the surgical area. The surgical technician must be aware of and have knowledge in cleaning of surgery and all supplies. He/she must know and use proper sterilizing techniques
REQUIRIED SKILLS/ABILITIES
: The surgical technician will scrub in on surgeries. The surgical technician must be willing to follow orders and abide by the regulations set by Morris County Hospital. He/she must be accurate and rapid in preparations. The surgical technician must be physically and mentally sound. He/she will be required to stand, stoop, hold retractors for extended length of time, bend, lift and turn. This is necessary to give care for the patient, as well as for thorough cleaning procedures needed in the surgery department. The surgical technician may be required to assist the physician with procedures in other departments when not in surgery. He/she must have knowledge of the delivery room and other departments which may need assistance. Will maintain sterile instruments used in all departments within Morris County Hospital. He/she will wrap and sterilize packs, instruments, & instrument sets as needed. He/she will assist other surgery department staff with the routine cleaning of the department. The surgical technician may be called in to the hospital when off duty for surgical and sterilizing needs. The surgery technician works indoors in well-lighted and ventilated rooms. He/she could be exposed to communicable diseases, cuts or minor burns from instruments and equipment. The surgical technician reports to the OR Manager and/or the Chief Nursing Officer.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
: Minimum - High School Diploma, C N A and Surgery Tech certification. Experience preferred.
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
Neat, clean, and well groomed. Dress in required uniform.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
May have to lift equipment or packages up to 50 pounds. There is a possibility of strains due to moving of patients, or injury from irrational patients.
