The Surgical Technician prepares the operating room for surgical procedures and assists the surgeon during cases while maintaining sterile technique and ensuring a safe, efficient surgical environment. This is a primary job description; a secondary role description may also apply. Key Responsibilities Serve as a team member supporting the total peri‑operative process. Understand procedures, instrumentation, patient positioning, equipment, and supplies. Review and follow surgeon preference cards; collaborate with the RN to prepare the OR. Follow surgical attire policy. Maintain strict sterile technique and sterile field integrity. Identify and report any suspected contamination of the sterile field. Maintain an organized sterile field and monitor sharps, sponges, needles, and other countable items. Prepare and provide functioning equipment and instruments pre‑ and intra‑operatively. Arrange instruments according to procedural steps and physician preferences. Receive and correctly label medication on the sterile field. Follow policies for instrument cleaning and transport after procedures. Assist with opening and closing room cleaning and preparation. Reduce unnecessary traffic and maintain a safe, sanitary OR environment. Anticipate and respond to the needs of the patient, surgeon, and OR team. Anticipate needed equipment, supplies, and instruments and make them readily available. Maintain and update surgeon preference cards and instrument cards. Effectively communicate patient status to team members. Assist with inventory management, restocking, and preparing for future cases. Demonstrate knowledge of cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization processes. Assist with sterile processing when needed. Uses resources appropriately and recommends cost‑effective improvements. HIPAA & Patient Rights Complies with HIPAA and all Center PHI policies. Protects patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality. Supports patient rights in all job duties. Infection Control Adheres to infection prevention policies and standard‑of‑care guidelines. Cleans and disinfects equipment between patients according to policy and manufacturer instructions. Follows safe medication practices. Uses standard precautions as required by policy and regulation. Infection Control Follow all infection‑prevention policies, procedures, and guidelines. Clean and disinfect equipment and devices between patients according to policy and manufacturer instructions. Follow safe medication handling practices. Practice standard precautions and comply with state and federal regulations. Safety & Risk Management Follows OSHA standards and Center safety policies. Reports safety violations, hazards, adverse events, and near‑misses promptly. Participates in incident/adverse event protocols. Follows manufacturer instructions for safe use and care of equipment, devices, and supplies. Performance Improvement (QAPI) Contributes to the Center's QAPI program. Follows QAPI policies and participates in data‑collection activities. Helps identify opportunities to improve quality and performance. Professional Competence Participates in continuing education and shares knowledge with staff. Seeks new learning opportunities and additional responsibilities. Maintains membership in relevant professional surgical technology organizations. Required High school diploma or GED. Completion of accredited surgical technology program or meets Missouri state requirements for the title/role of Surgical Technologist. BLS certification within 30 days of hire. Adequate written, telephone, and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred Prior experience as a Surgical Technician / Surgical Technologist. Surgical Technologist certification. Professional, positive, and diplomatic demeanor. Ability to respond calmly and competently in stressful situations. Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to anticipate needs. Effective communication with patients, visitors, peers, and providers. Flexibility for extra/overtime hours. Reliable attendance. Physical & Mental Requirements Ability to push, pull, bend, twist, reach, and lift equipment or instrument trays. Ability to stand for long periods and move quickly during procedures. Strong visual and auditory acuity for surgical equipment and team communication. Manual dexterity for surgical instrumentation and equipment handling. Ability to make quick, accurate decisions during emergencies. Working Conditions Well‑lit, ventilated, climate‑controlled operating room.

bloodborne pathogens, infectious material, chemicals, and sharps.Safety equipment provided:
