Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Philosophy o Supports the facility's ideology, mission, goals, and objectives o Performs in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures o Follows the facility's standards for ethical business conduct o Conducts self as a positive role model and team member o Recognizes patients' rights and responsibilities and supports them in performance of job duties o Participates in facility committees, meetings, in-services, and activities 2. Communication o Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers o Interacts with others in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner o Displays the ability to comprehend and interpret verbal orders and direction o Displays skill in oral and written communication techniques 3. Financial practices o Uses facility resources appropriately and avoids wasteful practices o Reports wasteful practices o Analyzes work area and makes recommendations for potential cost-effective improvements 4. Compliance program o Contributes to the progress and development of the organization's adopted compliance program o Performs according to established compliance policies and procedures 5. Performance-improvement program o Contributes to the progress and development of the organization's adopted performance-improvement program o Performs according to established performance-improvement policies and procedures 6. Safety/risk-management program o Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities o Reports observed or suspected safety violations, hazards, and policy/procedure noncompliance to the safety officer or other designated person 7. Professional competence o Participates in continuing education and other learning experiences o Shares knowledge gained in continuing education with staff o Maintains membership in relevant professional organizations o Seeks new learning experiences by accepting challenging opportunities and responsibilities o Welcomes suggestions and recommendations 8. Duties o Follows principles of aseptic technique and prescribed operating/procedure room procedures o Adheres to aseptic technique when opening sterile packages and preparing for the procedure o Arranges instruments according to given procedure o Confirms that instruments work properly o Maintains availability of instruments and supplies on the surgical field, to avoid delays o Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and takes action according to policy o Correctly uses, cares for, cleans, and sterilizes instruments, supplies, and equipment as directed o Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide appropriate availability and safety o Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room for immediate access during procedure o Assists in storing and stocking supplies as directed o Assists to maintain and update instrument cards and surgeons' preference cards o Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician o Documents forms according to facility policies and procedures o Accurately advises others responsible for care of the patient about the patient's status o Performs specified functions to meet the requirements of each approved procedure o Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physicians' preference cards o Inspects equipment for proper working condition o Follows principles of aseptic technique and prescribed operating/procedure room procedures o Adheres to aseptic technique when opening sterile packages and preparing for the procedure o Arranges instruments according to given procedure o Confirms that instruments work properly o Maintains availability of instruments and supplies on the surgical field, to avoid delays o Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and takes action according to policy o Correctly uses, cares for, cleans, and sterilizes instruments, supplies, and equipment as directed o Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide appropriate availability and safety o Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room for immediate access during procedure o Assists in storing and stocking supplies as directed o Assists to maintain and update instrument cards and surgeons' preference cards o Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician o Documents forms according to facility policies and procedures o Accurately advises others responsible for care of the patient about the patient's statusQUALIFICATIONS

Required High school diploma or GED certification Completion of Surgical Scrub Technician course preferred Operating room surgical assisting experience, ophthalmic experience preferred Strong ethical and moral character references Preferred Two years' previous operating room experience ASC experienceJOB QUALITY REQUIREMENTS
