Summary The Certified Surgical Technologist or Scrub Technician assists in the operative procedure by passing instruments and maintaining a sterile field using excellent sterile technique. This person works collaboratively with the RNs, surgeons, and anesthesiologists, before, during, and after surgery, in accordance with operating room and center policies and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and its use in the surgery environment. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards. Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens. Demonstrated respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Participates in department quality assurance/quality improvement program. Assists with room turnovers and instrument processing as needed. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Safety Conscience Maintains a clean and orderly sterile table. Counts in a timely basis with the RN. Adheres to sterilization process policies and procedures. Ensures the sterility of each item presented to them. Attention to Detail Initiates proper inspection of instruments for damage and defects. Determines whether each item is sterile and in good working condition. Process Oriented Follows all policies and procedures when opening items onto the sterile field. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required. Minimum two years of recent experience working in a medical facility as a sterile processing technician.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
