Job Description

Summary:
Neaman Surgery Center is growing, and we're excited to add a Part-Time and possibly transitioning to Full Time. Surgical Technologist to our highly skilled surgical team! If you're passionate about patient care and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, we want to hear from you. Active Surgical Technologist credentials are required. In this role, you'll play a vital part in creating a smooth, safe, and exceptional surgical experience for our patients. You'll assist in the daily operations of the OR, working closely with our surgeons and nursing team to uphold the highest standards of care—always aligned with federal, state, and accreditation guidelines, as well as our own commitment to clinical excellence. Technical Skills:
Troubleshoots equipment issues effectively and reports malfunctions to appropriate personnel. Demonstrates working knowledge of potential risks and complications related to surgical procedures. Follow established protocols for handling and reporting malfunctioning equipment and repair needs. Anticipates the need for instruments, equipment, and supplies based on surgeon preference cards. Selects and prepares equipment and supplies in an organized, cost-effective, and timely manner. Ensures all equipment is functioning prior to use; removes and reports any malfunctioning equipment. Demonstrates proficient and safe use of instruments and equipment. Operates mechanical, electrical, and air-powered equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are readily available at all times. Maintains surgical suites in a clean, organized, and properly stocked state, free of soiled items. Follows all policies and procedures related to surgical counts and initiates corrective action if discrepancies arise. Establishes and maintains a sterile field using aseptic techniques. Identifies and addresses breaks in sterile technique immediately. Wears appropriate attire in restricted areas and follows established traffic patterns. Demonstrates knowledge of safe handling, sterilization, and storage of surgical instruments. Applies sterile processing standards and assists with inventory management as needed. Sterilizes and organizes surgical instruments and equipment per protocol. Assists with operating room turnover and preparation of sterile supplies (e.g., case pulling, opening). Maintains accurate equipment logs and sterilization records. Remains current on safety protocols and evolving surgical techniques.
Preoperative Duties:
Prepares the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and solutions. Ensures availability and proper functioning of all required supplies and equipment. Prepares patients for surgery, including cleansing and disinfecting incision sites. Transports patients to and from the operating room as needed. Assists surgical team members with donning sterile gowns and gloves. Intraoperative Duties (During Surgery): Passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon and surgical assistants efficiently. Maintains the sterile field and actively monitors any breaches in sterility. Holds retractors or internal organs in position during procedures as directed. Performs surgical counts of sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery. Assists with technical tasks such as suctioning, suturing, or managing surgical specimens. Prepares, handles, and labels specimens appropriately for laboratory analysis. Postoperative Duties (After Surgery): Assists with the application of surgical dressings and wound care. Cleans and restocks the operating room, disposing of used supplies appropriately. Sterilizes instruments and ensures readiness for the next surgical case.
Additional Duties:
Inventories surgical supplies and assists in supply ordering as needed. Maintains quality control standards in accordance with clinical and regulatory guidelines. Responds calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Communicates clearly and professionally with patients, team members, and providers. Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operations of the business. This list is not exhaustive, and responsibilities may evolve based on the needs of the practice.
Minimum Requirements:
Operating room experience required. Minimum two (2) years of operating-room experience preferred. Certification as a Surgical Technologist or proof of required experience per Oregon state regulations. Must be able to provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
Work Environment:
Work involves standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting throughout the day. Must have full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range. May involve working under stressful conditions or irregular hours.
Mental/Physical Requirements:
Work occurs in both office and clinical settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, chemicals, and medical preparations. Must be able to maintain focus and composure in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.
