Primary Function:

In Ophthalmology cases, exclusively, assist the surgeon by providing and controlling the sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment required during surgery. Assure that the appropriate supplies that are to be used in surgery are collected from Northwest Medical Services' office and transported with you to the facility ahead of the start of the surgical day.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. First Assist to the surgeon during ophthalmology cases according to the prescribed standards by assisting and anticipating the needs of the surgeon. 2. Compile and make available all necessary supplies for the predetermined procedures by collecting the required materials ahead of the surgical date. 3. Open sterile supplies and prepare the necessary instruments for the operative procedure prior to patient entering the room during the turnover period where you will assist the facility's nurse(s). 4. Ensure that all surgical trays, instruments, equipment, and supplies are prepared as directed before, during, and after the procedure according to NWMS company standards of service. 5. Always maintain aseptic technique as dictated by accepted standards. 6. Maintain current knowledge of all policies and procedures that NWMS supplies. 7. Employees will not be discourteous or disrespectful to a customer or facility staff member while in the course and scope of company business. 8. Work in a cooperative manner with management/supervision, coworkers, surgeons, facility staff, patients, and vendor sales representatives. 9. Abide by company policies including but not limited to timely delivery of receipts via a receipt capture application, completion of required paperwork prior to leaving the facility, and digitally sharing surgery paperwork with our billing department. 10. Perform required upkeep on the company vehicle as required by NWMS preventative maintenance standards with the use of company funds (see compensation and benefits for more details on this).

Requirements:

Graduation from a Surgical Technologist training program and certification through either the NBSTSA, or, have practiced surgical technology during at least two of the three years immediately preceding January 1, 2017 in a health care facility in Oregon or in another state or as an employee of an agency or institution of the federal government and every two years completes 16 hours of continuing education approved by the authority. Operating Room Experience - Previous experience with ophthalmology cases is a plus. Current BLS certification Legal Driver's License with clean driving record
