a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } UPMC Williamsport is hiring a Surgical Pathology Technician for a full-time, Monday-Friday day shift position . This role is responsible for accurately receiving, examining, and processing surgical biopsy specimens, entering specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and maintaining supplies and instruments within the Pathology department. The ideal candidate will have grossing knowledge or experience . Key Responsibilities Receive, sort, and accession specimens into the LIS, ensuring accurate and complete patient identification using barcoded labels. Verify specimen requisitions and containers for proper patient identification; reject specimens with conflicting or inadequate identifiers. Examine and prepare surgical biopsy specimens for microscopic evaluation, including providing accurate gross descriptions in accordance with the Surgical Pathology Manual. Consistently document precise gross descriptions in case reports for pathologist review. Perform special specimen handling as required, including radiography, photography, special fixation, and other techniques. Correlate patient history with specimen type and consult admitting clinicians when discrepancies are identified. Utilize voice recognition software to document gross specimen appearance. Properly handle, store, and dispose of all surgical tissue in compliance with regulatory, safety, and biohazard standards. File, retrieve, and maintain surgical materials with accurate recordkeeping. Document discrepancies and resolutions in APLIS. Maintain equipment logs and ensure proper operation, preventive maintenance, repair, and replacement of departmental equipment. Replenish supplies for physicians' offices and order departmental supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels. Perform clerical and computer-based tasks as related to Pathology operations. Attend mandatory safety, compliance, in-services, lectures, and training sessions as required by laboratory and hospital guidelines.
