Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in

Ophthalmic Surgeries:

Prepare operating rooms for surgeries, ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterilized and available. Assist ophthalmologists during various eye surgeries, including cataract surgery and glaucoma procedures. Handle and pass surgical instruments and devices during procedures, maintaining a sterile field at all times.

Patient Preparation:

Prepare patients for surgery by explaining procedures and addressing concerns. Assist with patient check-in and proper administrative duties required such as ID collection and scanning, payment collection, etc. Perform preoperative tasks such as patient positioning, draping, and monitoring vital signs as directed. Assist with administering local anesthetic agents and other pre-op medications as required. Assist with patient phone calls for pre-surgery arrival information to ensure smooth procedure and excellent patient experience and for occasional post-op calls as needed.

Facility, Equipment & Instrument Management:

Assist with proper equipment and supply receiving, unpacking, and stocking Ensure proper inventory control of instruments and supplies. Maintain stock levels of supplies as directed by leadership (ordering, follow up, storage, etc.) Assist team with end of day "shut down" processes of re-stocking, cleaning, and prep for next day. Set up, calibrate, and maintain ophthalmic surgical equipment, ensuring all devices are in working order before procedures. Safely manage ophthalmic instruments during surgeries, including specialized tools like microscopes, laser devices, and surgical instruments.

Instrument Sterilization:

Ensure adherence to proper infection control and sterilization techniques. Perform sterilization of ophthalmic surgical instruments and equipment following established protocols and guidelines. Ensure all instruments are cleaned, inspected, and sterilized according to infection control policies.

Documentation and Record Keeping:

Document surgical procedures, including patient preparation, instruments used, and other essential details in patient charts. Maintain accurate records of inventory and surgical supplies.

Postoperative Care:

Turning over stretchers as necessary and directed by surgery leadership Assist in transferring patients to recovery rooms and, if necessary, exiting the facility, and monitor them post-surgery. Provide patients with postoperative instructions, including medication management and follow-up appointments.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a surgical technician, with a focus on ophthalmology preferred.
• Certified Ophthalmic Surgical Assistant (COSA), or other relevant certifications, strongly preferred.
• Experience in operating room settings, including familiarity with ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
• Basic knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy and procedures, including cataract surgery and glaucoma procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Previous experience in a clinical or surgical ophthalmology environment.
• Current CPR certification.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods during surgeries.
• Ability to lift and move surgical instruments and supplies as necessary.
• Visual acuity sufficient for assisting with delicate surgical procedures.

$19.00 - $24.00 per hour
