Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Surgical Technologist, where you'll play a vital role in supporting surgical teams and ensuring the highest standards of patient care. This energetic position involves preparing surgical rooms, assisting during surgeries, and maintaining sterile environments to facilitate successful surgical outcomes. Responsibilities Assist the surgeon during skin cancer removal and other benign procedures. Prepare procedure rooms, instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgery. Room patients and obtain relevant medical history, medications, allergies, and vital signs. Prepare and position patients for surgical procedures. Maintain sterile technique and assist with surgical setup throughout procedures. Assist with local anesthesia preparation and other procedure-related needs as directed by the provider. Properly handle, label, and transport tissue specimens throughout the surgery process. Assist with wound care, dressings, and post-operative patient instructions. Clean, disinfect, and restock procedure rooms between patients. Sterilize instruments and maintain appropriate infection-control standards. Document patient information and procedure details accurately in the electronic medical record. Educate patients on wound care and help answer questions within the scope of the position. Monitor patients throughout their visit and promptly communicate concerns to the provider. Maintain accurate inventory of surgical supplies and notify appropriate staff when supplies need to be reordered. Work closely with physicians, medical assistants, laboratory staff, and other team members to maintain an efficient surgery schedule. Follow OSHA, HIPAA, infection-control, and patient-safety guidelines. Provide compassionate, professional care to patients undergoing skin cancer treatment. Perform additional clinical and administrative duties as assigned. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in a medical office, dermatology, surgical, or procedural setting preferred. Medical Assistant certification or related clinical training preferred but not required. Knowledge of sterile technique, infection control, and surgical procedures preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established clinical protocols. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Compassionate and professional when working with patients undergoing skin cancer treatment. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work closely with physicians and other members of the clinical team. Comfortable assisting with surgical procedures, blood, tissue specimens, and wound care. Basic computer skills and ability to accurately document in an electronic medical record (EMR). Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a professional attitude. Willingness to learn Mohs-specific procedures and techniques. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements. BLS/CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain after hire.
