Terms and Conditions apply The Surgical Technologist III (operating room scrub technician) possesses advanced skills in assigned specialty area and maintains knowledge and skills to function competently on any team based on departmental needs. This job sets up sterile field, gathers supplies for surgical cases based on knowledge of instruments and equipment to be used. The Surgical Technologist III role passes instruments to surgeons during surgery. This role also formulates plans for procedures with nurses and surgeons. The Surgical Technologist III plans and facilitates quality assurance and/or performance improvement activities. This position serves as a resource and preceptor to Surgical Technologists I and II in their assigned specialty area. This position demonstrates advanced skills in practice specialty. This position also functions under the direct supervision of an RN circulator. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for
Hire:
Registered by the State Board of Medicine and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) or Certified Operating Room or Surgical Technician (CORST) certification. Certification or Registration Requirement for

AHA, BLS, HCP

REQUIRED
Minimum of 2 years experience as a Surgical Technologist or related scrub technician position Experience
PREFERRED
3-5 years experience as a surgical technologist or related scrub technician position, with 2 years in a specific practice area. Education/training
REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalent Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program or a military training program or Licensed Practical Nursing Program Education/training
PREFERRED
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program Independent action(s) required: Functions under the direction of RN or independent practitioner in providing direct patient care, emotional support and problem solving, all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policies and procedures. Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor for time/schedule changes, legal issues, direct care which deviates from the standard and identification of educational resources to meet developmental needs. Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A Additional position requirements: Surgical Technologists work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with employee's specific Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet staffing requirements or in the best interests of the work unit. Takes independent call for routine or high acuity cases after the orientation period.
