Job Summary:
Is an advanced clinical professional who provides expert-level surgical technology support for complex surgical procedures while serving as a clinical resource, educator, and/or mentor within the operating room. This role demonstrates advanced technical expertise, exceptional knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, sterile technique, infection prevention, and patient safety. Promotes operational excellence, fosters teamwork and professional development, and serves as a subject matter expert for assigned surgical specialties. Displays a mastery of the expected workflow within the surgery department to optimize patient care delivery and facilitate efficiencies within the clinical setting. Participates in decision making and problem solving to assure high quality patient care and surgeon satisfaction. As an advanced practitioner demonstrates superior knowledge and expert practice while actively working in surgical procedures during their scheduled work hours. Assists the Surgeon, RN, and the Anesthesiologist in the care of patients in the Operating Room. Demonstrates expert level proficiency within assigned specialty areas, with the ability to independently support all procedures within a designated POD or multiple specialty services. Maintains competency in priority urgent and emergent procedures as identified by OR leadership.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
A minimum of 2 years Surgical Technologist experience is required. Two years of surgical technologist experience in designated specialty is required to acquire level of expertise needed to perform the role.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Post high school education, certification or diploma required. Completion of a Surgical Technologist program, completion of Military Operating Room Specialist course or the Froedtert Health sponsored apprentice II program required.
TRAINING REQUIRED
If practicing as a surgical assist successful completion of required surgical assist training. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in major operative surgical specialties is required. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology and potential complications for procedures performed is required. Expert knowledge of specialty instruments and equipment is required.
LICENSURE REQUIRED
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required. Surgical Technologist certification is required. As of May 1, 2024, date, incumbent staff will have 6 months to complete certification.
