Monitor Technician Job Category Allied Health Schedule Full time Shift 3 -
Night Shift SUMMARY :
Provides continuous cardiac monitor observation to detect, record, and report normal and abnormal heart rhythms patterns and provide ECG interval measurements. Consults with nursing staff and medical staff regarding heart rhythm patterns.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: Sets up and ensures proper functioning of ECG monitoring equipment; applies electrodes on predetermined measured positions on the patient and checks their performance. Records and calculates all necessary parameters and assists with the interpretation of ECG tracings. Monitors patient condition levels; reports changes to the appropriate individuals Responds to emergency situations. Maintains logs or reports as directed for equipment malfunctions . Performs clerical duties such as answering telephone. Participates in the orientation of new personnel and in the ongoing in-service education of the team. Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values policies and standards. Performs related duties assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience .
EXPERIENCE
Six (6) months of patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting; or no experience if completed one semester of clinicals in an acute care setting in an accredited nursing program, or completed a formal Patient Care Tech (PCT) program, or obtained a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, or obtained a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION
: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
:
  • Skill in attention to detail, and following directions.
  • Ability to learn how to set up equipment to ensure the most accurate readings.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to listen and accurately interpret others' communication or instructions to take appropriate action; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
