Qualifications BLS Certification English Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Sonographer 1, under minimal supervision, performs complex diagnostic ultrasound and vascular exams. Provides high level of care to the ultrasound and vascular patient. Supports the major objectives of the Department of Ultrasound & Vascular such as excellence in clinical services, in educational activities, in research and development activities, in employee environmental conditions, and in reduction of medical cost. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree required. Graduate of a Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) Program required. Minimum two years of ultrasound experience preferred. Experience may be considered in lieu of education if licensure and certification requirements are met.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of proper use and manipulation of transducers and ultrasound instrumentation.
Able to:
read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications:
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification in Abdomen or OB/GYN required or must attain within 6 months of hire date. Specialty credential in Breast, Neurosonology, Pediatric Sonography, Vascular Technology, or Musculoskeletal Sonography preferred. Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) from the American Heart Association required.
