Healthcare / Diagnostic Imaging About the Opportunity A well-established community-based healthcare organization in Northeastern Connecticut is seeking a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join its Diagnostic Imaging team on a per diem basis. This position is ideal for an experienced sonographer who enjoys working in a hospital environment and is comfortable performing a variety of ultrasound procedures while collaborating with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The selected candidate will work with modern ultrasound equipment and play an important role in supporting accurate patient diagnoses through high-quality imaging services. What You'll Be Doing As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will perform a broad range of ultrasound examinations while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and image quality. Key Responsibilities Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations for: Abdominal studies OB/GYN imaging Pelvic examinations Vascular studies Small parts imaging Operate and adjust ultrasound equipment to obtain diagnostic-quality images. Review image quality and ensure proper documentation of studies. Explain procedures and prepare patients for examinations. Position and assist patients during imaging procedures. Work closely with radiologists regarding imaging findings and technical questions. Assist physicians and radiologists with ultrasound-guided procedures when required. Maintain accurate patient records and examination documentation. Follow all hospital, departmental, safety, infection control, and quality assurance procedures. Participate in on-call, weekend, holiday, or rotating schedules as needed. Perform portable ultrasound examinations when required. Work Environment This role is based within a hospital Diagnostic Imaging department serving both inpatient and outpatient populations.

Required Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program or equivalent training and experience. Certifications Current ARDMS certification required. Must possess Sonography Physics credential plus at least one specialty registry. Current or ability to obtain BLS/CPR certification. ARDMS credentials must remain active and in good standing. Experience Minimum 1-2 years of ultrasound experience in a clinical or hospital setting. Experience performing abdominal, pelvic, OB/GYN, and small parts ultrasound examinations. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Preferred Qualifications RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) certification. Hospital-based ultrasound experience. Experience performing vascular ultrasound studies. Experience assisting with ultrasound-guided procedures. Multi-specialty sonography experience. Skills & Knowledge Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and ultrasound imaging principles. Excellent patient care and communication skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in urgent or emergency situations. Strong attention to detail and image quality standards. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Comfortable adapting to changing patient volumes and scheduling needs. Commitment to maintaining current knowledge of ultrasound technology and best practices. Schedule Per Diem Position Minimum commitment of 32 hours per month Rotating shifts may be required Weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage may be required based on departmental needs Ideal Candidate This opportunity is best suited for an ARDMS-certified sonographer who enjoys a diverse caseload, thrives in a hospital environment, and has experience performing multiple ultrasound modalities including abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, and small parts imaging.
