Job Description

JOB TITLE
: Sonographer
REPORTS TO
: Practice Director
REQUIREMENT S
Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to pinpoint area of imaging. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in operating ultrasound equipment. Skill in taking vital signs. Skill in maintaining department quality records and recording test results. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly. Must be licensed with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Registerd Vascular Technologist (RVT) Certification preferred.
JOB DUTIES
: 1. Greets everyone promptly and courteously. Assists patients from the waiting room to the appropriate area within the office. 2. Performs ultrasonic diagnostics procedures as directed by physicians. 3. Explains procedures to assure cooperation and optimum test results. 4. Positions patients and selects appropriate transducer. 5. Conducts scanning procedures using ultrasound equipment. Moves scanner over specified body area and adjusts equipment to focus. 6. Develops film using automatics film processing equipment. Assembles materials for radiologist. 7. Maintains ultrasound equipment. Orders and stocks all ultrasound supplies. 8. Maintains patient confidentiality. 9. Educated with experience to perform vascular and carotid studies efficiently. 10. Prepares patient for exam and assists as needed. 11. Finalizes visit instructions and assists patient to the check-out counter. 12. Sterilizes medical instruments according to mandated policy. 13. Observes and follows OSHA, CLIA and ADA guidelines. 14. Receives test and procedure results and submit for daily physician review. Files as appropriate.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds with frequent reaching, pulling, pushing, and standing. May be required to carry objects up to 10 pounds. This position is as needed for Monday-Thursday, 8:00am -5:00pm and Friday 8:00am to 12:00pm, may be asked to float between multiple locations.
