What You'll Do As a Vascular Ultrasound Tech, you will report to the Practice Manager. Performs ultrasound scans and procedures requiring independent judgment and a high degree of precision and skill in the application of ultrasound equipment and high frequency ultrasound waves with a focus on vascular procedures and examinations. Follows protocols and procedures as directed by the Radiologist. Ensures quality patient care is provided. Performs research functions in order to conference with physicians.
Vascular Ultrasound Tech Job Responsibilities:
Perform abdominal, Doppler, and vascular ultrasound scans using high-frequency equipment per established protocols Obtain clinical histories, communicate with providers, and explain procedures to patients Ensure patient safety through sterile technique, condition monitoring, and emergency response (e.g., CPR) Select appropriate transducers and materials; maintain digital imaging and records Conduct vascular studies, including Doppler waveforms, pulse volume recordings, and blood pressure measurements Calculate indices (e.g., ankle-brachial, toe-brachial) and document findings for physician review Assist physicians during vascular procedures, maintain sterile field, provide ultrasound guidance, and support patient recovery and discharge Fit patients for compression stockings and provide follow-up instructions Maintain ultrasound equipment, supplies, and inventory; support clinic operations including scheduling, documentation, and insurance processes Comply with organizational requirements, including training, certifications (BCLS/CPR), safety protocols, regulatory standards, and schedule flexibility What You Bring As a Vascular Ultrasound Tech, you will demonstrate strong analytical skills to evaluate information and records using measurable, verifiable standards while ensuring accuracy and quality outcomes. Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams to support proper patient positioning and minimize discomfort, with a clear understanding of medical and radiographic terminology. Exhibits well-developed interpersonal and clinical skills, including vascular assessment and testing, while maintaining professional, tactful interactions with patients, physicians, and staff. Applies attention to detail when operating diagnostic equipment and positioning patients, and effectively analyzes, documents, and reports data to appropriate healthcare professionals. Maintains excellent verbal and written communication skills and fosters collaborative working relationships across care teams. Required Qualifications The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through graduation from an approved school of radiology technology or an approved ultrasound school, registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist or certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), certification for ultrasound by the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM) or obtain within the first six months of employment, certification by the Indiana State Board of Health. The Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credential (from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) or the Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) credential (from Cardiovascular Credentialing International) must be obtained within 18 months of employment.
