Smithfield, Virginia Opening in early 2026, Riverside Smithfield Hospital brought high-quality healthcare closer to home for Isle of Wight County residents. Located on a beautifully landscaped 27-acre medical campus at 19339 Benn's Grant Boulevard in Smithfield, the new hospital provides modern facilities and comprehensive medical services to meet the growing needs of the community. The 200,000-square-foot, three-story facility offers a range of essential healthcare services including an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and 4 Operating Rooms. Overview The Ultrasound Technologist in the acute care setting will perform a wide range of ultrasound exams, such as general ultrasound, breast, OB/GYN, and other ultrasound exams on incoming patients. The Ultrasound Technologist responds to patient questions and concerns regarding exam procedures and processes, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality regarding personal health information. The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for daily operations of the ultrasound lab, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). The Ultrasound Technologist always maintains a high standard of medical ethics and is self-motivated to pursue lifelong learning to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve. What you will do Uses imaging equipment and soundwaves to form images for diagnosis. Produces quality images following appropriate protocols and procedures. Provides and maintains clinical documentation per scope of practice. Educates patients/families regarding the procedure to be performed. Explains the procedure and independently performs ultrasound exams on patients following established protocols. Evaluates images for quality. Interprets what image is captured. Presents images and preliminary findings to the physician. Maintains the ultrasound equipment and sterilizes the room. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Troubleshoots and ensures equipment functionality. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services. Understands and adheres to all applicable regulatory and accrediting standards. Follows RHS policies and procedures. Reports variances. Qualifications Experience Ultrasound experience (Preferred) Licenses and Certifications Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) RDMS(OB, AB, Breast, or NIV) Upon Hire(Required) or Radiologic Technologists
  • The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Sonography (S) Upon Hire(Required) and Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS)
  • Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) CCI (RCS, RCIS, or RVS) Upon Hire(Required) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) RVT or RDCS Upon Hire(Required) and CPR/BLS Certification
