Description Role Description:
The Associate Veterinarian will provide medical, surgical and dental care for small animals, including performing examinations, diagnosing conditions, developing treatment plans, and communicating findings and recommendations to clients. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing medical histories, interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, performing and soft tissue surgeries, and overseeing anesthesia and pain management. The role involves collaborating with technicians and support staff, maintaining accurate medical records, and ensuring adherence to hospital protocols and veterinary standards of care. The veterinarian will also participate in client education on preventive care, behavior, nutrition, and long-term health management. This is a full-time, on-site role located at Ft. Payne Animal Hospital in Fort Payne, AL. The founder of this practice will be retiring in the next couple of years so a buy in of this progressive practice is a possibility.
Requirements Qualifications:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) from an accredited institution and eligibility for or current license to practice veterinary medicine in Alabama. Experience or strong interest in small animal general practice, including wellness care, internal medicine and routine surgery. Ability to perform physical examinations, interpret diagnostic results, and develop clear, evidence- based treatment plans. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain medical conditions and options in a respectful, accessible manner. Commitment to compassionate, low-stress handling of patients and to delivering inclusive, non- judgmental care to all clients. Comfort working in a collaborative team environment, including directing and supporting veterinary technicians and assistants. Attention to detail in medical record keeping, adherence to safety and infection-control protocols, and sound clinical judgment. Willingness to participate in continuing education, stay current with advances in veterinary medicine, and adopt new techniques and technologies. Availability to work a consistent full-time schedule, which may include some evenings or weekends as needed for patient care.
