Job Description

Position Overview:
Second Chance Humane Society is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Shelter Veterinarian to join our team at our Western Coloardo sites. As a Shelter Veterinarian, you will play a key role in providing high-quality medical care to shelter animals, ensuring their health, comfort, and well-being. This position is part-time, with a minimum of 16 hours per month.
Key Responsibilities:
Surgical Care:
Perform spay and neuter surgeries for shelter animals.
Animal Health Examinations:
Conduct intake exams for all shelter animals and periodic wellness checks.
Vaccinations & Preventive Care:
Administer vaccinations and other preventive care, including deworming and parasite control.
Pharmaceutical Management:
Order and manage veterinary pharmaceuticals and ensure proper inventory control. The Shelter Veterinarian will provide their FDA drug license to make such orders.
Medical Rounds:
Conduct regular medical rounds for shelter animals to monitor health, provide routine care, and develop treatment plans for animals in need.
Community Veterinary Care:
Occasionally assist with community animal wellness programs and offer limited veterinary care to local companion animals as part of our outreach mission.
Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary program.
Licensing:
Must hold or be eligible for a veterinary license in the state of Colorado.
Experience:
Previous experience in a shelter or community veterinary setting preferred; new graduates with a passion for shelter medicine are welcome to apply.
Skills:
Strong surgical skills, particularly in spay/neuter procedures; excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities; proficiency in managing a varied caseload.
