About the Job The Giving with Grace Spay/Neuter Clinic at Lake Norman Humane is seeking a Clinic Veterinarian to join our team. The Veterinarian will perform surgeries at the Giving with Grace Spay & Neuter Clinic in addition to providing medical care for pets at Lake Norman Humane. As the Clinic Veterinarian, your work and leadership will be critical to LKNH's mission to save animals' lives and address the issue of homeless pets. Lake Norman Humane is a non-profit animal rescue dedicated to saving homeless, abandoned, and at-risk dogs and cats by providing medical care, shelter rehabilitation, and adoption services throughout the Lake Norman community. Through education, volunteer support, and community outreach, the organization works to improve animal welfare and reduce pet homelessness. The Giving With Grace Spay/Neuter Clinic at Lake Norman Humane expands that mission by offering affordable spay and neuter services and low-cost vaccinations to rescue animals, pet owners, and other rescue organizations, helping control pet overpopulation and keep more animals out of shelters.
The position:
The Veterinarian serves as the primary veterinarian for the Giving with Grace Spay/Neuter Clinic and Veterinarian of Record for Lake Norman Humane. This position is primarily responsible for providing high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter services to community-owned and rescue animals while supporting the rescue through medical consultation, protocol oversight, and scheduled examinations of rescue animals as needed. The Veterinarian works collaboratively with rescue leadership and medical staff to ensure appropriate medical care and treatment protocols are in place but is not responsible for the day-to-day monitoring, health checks, or routine medical management of animals within the rescue's care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Spay/Neuter Clinic Responsibilities Perform high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries (HQHVSN) Evaluate patients before and after surgical procedures to ensure suitability for surgery and proper recovery Conduct post-surgical recheck evaluations and provide any necessary medical treatment to support successful patient recovery Perform dental procedures including dental radiographs and extractions Follow infectious disease protocols Maintain thorough medical records Other job-related duties, as assigned Effectively and compassionately communicate with and deliver education to a varied client base and medical support staff Assist in the development and implementation of additional elective surgical services for rescue animals and community-owned pets as organizational capacity, community need, and resources allow Rescue Medical Oversight Responsibilities Serve as the Veterinarian of Record for the affiliated rescue organization. Conduct scheduled examinations of rescue animals requiring veterinary evaluation. Provide consultation to rescue medical staff regarding treatment plans, medical concerns, and complex cases. Review, approve, and periodically update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for common illnesses and conditions encountered within the rescue environment. Provide medical guidance regarding disease prevention, treatment protocols, and population health management. Perform spay/neuter surgeries and dentals for rescue animals as needed. Conduct quality-of-life evaluations and provide recommendations regarding humane euthanasia when requested. Support rescue leadership during infectious disease concerns or unusual medical situations. Requirements Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree from an American Veterinary Medical Association accredited veterinary college required Possession of a valid North Carolina veterinary license in good standing, or the ability to obtain licensure before the start of employment 3+ years of high volume surgical experience Successful completion of a criminal background check Ability to work in an environment that is fast-paced and high-stress Professional, courteous attitude and effective communicator Expectations Excellent attention to detail Punctual Integrity and a dedication to the organization's mission and values Uncompromising commitment to the well-being of every patient Able to effectively communicate with members of the public Good time management and prioritization skills Flexibility and the ability to effectively multi-task Ability to adapt to and accommodate changing demands Effective interpersonal skills, including those focused on conflict resolution Experience in an animal shelter or high-volume spay/neuter clinic is a plus Physical Job Requirements Ability to work around animals that may be sick or injured or have behavioral issues, loud noises, animal waste, and various chemicals.
