Job Description

Safe Place for Animals Veterinary Clinic, located in Gallatin, Tennessee (just 25 miles northeast of Nashville), is hiring a full-time Veterinarian. We are seeking a compassionate, experienced Veterinarian to provide comprehensive medical care to both our vet clinic's established and growing client base, as well as our shelter animals. Our private practice veterinary clinic specializes in small/companion animals, particularly dogs and cats.
Clinic Veterinary Responsibilities:
  • Examine, diagnose and prescribe/treat illness, disease and injury
  • Annual/routine wellness and health status exams and care
  • Administer vaccinations and implant microchips
  • Conduct diagnostics (blood, urine, fecal, etc.)
  • X-rays
  • Prescribe and dispense medication
  • Sedation, anesthesia and perform general surgery to include: spay and neuter, dental procedures, growth removal, etc.
  • Euthanasia
  • Advise/consult pet owners on nutrition, preventive healthcare and general pet care
  • Record actions by documenting and updating forms, reports, client/patient records
  • Ensure compliance with veterinary procedures, ethics, policies and relevant statutes
  • Other responsibilities as needed
Shelter Veterinary Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that each animal receives a physical examination upon intake, and that sick and injured animals are diagnosed and treated in a timely manner
  • Ensure that each animal receives initial vetting and follow up vetting to include: vaccinations, spay/neuter, heartworm, feline and parasite testing, flea/tick/heartworm/parasite treatment and preventative, microchip implantation
  • Monitor the health of the animals in the shelter, in collaboration with the shelter staff
  • Record actions by documenting and updating forms, reports, shelter animals records
  • Other responsibilities as needed
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • DVM, licensed to practice medicine in the state of TN
  • Ability to complete full medical work-ups and perform surgery independently
  • Have a passion for shelter medicine, in addition to general veterinary medicine
  • Be honest, dependable and able to work in a fast-paced team environment
