Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a qualified HVACR Service Technician to perform installation, service, and maintenance work on commercial, institutional, and industrial systems throughout the jurisdiction of SE Michigan. This role focuses on complex mechanical equipment found in schools, universities, and industrial facilities , with a strong emphasis on boilers, air-cooled chillers, and commercial refrigeration systems . The ideal candidate is a UA-trained Journeyman who demonstrates strong technical ability, professionalism, and a commitment to safety and craftsmanship in accordance with UA standards. Key Responsibilities Install, service, and maintain HVACR and piping systems in compliance with UA trade jurisdiction, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable mechanical codes Diagnose and repair boilers, air-cooled chillers, and refrigeration systems in large-scale facilities Perform preventative maintenance on hydronic heating systems, chilled water systems, and refrigeration equipment Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and control schematics to execute work accurately Perform pipe-fitting duties including layout, threading, grooving, and installation of mechanical systems Safely handle refrigerants, including recovery and charging, in accordance with EPA and UA training standards (ammonia experience is a plus) Conduct mechanical repairs and welding within the scope of UA pipe-fitting and HVAC service work Complete service reports and documentation per contractor and union requirements Coordinate work with other trades on job sites while adhering to UA work rules and safety protocols Qualifications Current member in good standing with existing UA or willingness to join Completion of a UA apprenticeship program or equivalent experience as a journeyman HVACR technician/pipefitter Proven experience in commercial, institutional (K-12, universities), or industrial environments Strong hands-on experience with boilers, air-cooled chillers, and refrigeration systems (required) Proficient in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting using industry-standard diagnostic tools Ability to read and apply mechanical drawings, schematics, and specifications Experience with hydronic and chilled water systems required; large-tonnage equipment experience preferred Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems is a plus Welding and pipe-fitting skills consistent with UA standards Valid driver's license and ability to travel within the Local 190 jurisdiction Demonstrated commitment to safety, craftsmanship, and union excellence Work Environment & Benefits This position is covered under the UA Local 190 collective bargaining agreement , offering union wages, pension, health benefits, and ongoing training through UA programs. Technicians will work on high-performance systems in demanding environments where skill, safety, and professionalism are essential.
Pay:
$45.00 - $55.00 per hour
