Full-TimeA well‑established heavy civil contractor with a strong presence across the Southeast is seeking a Heavy Civil Estimator to join its growing team in Birmingham, AL. This role is well suited for an estimator with hands-on experience preparing bids for complex civil infrastructure projects and looking to take the next step in a stable, long-term environment.Position OverviewThe Heavy Civil Estimator will support preconstruction and bidding efforts across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure work. This individual will work closely with project managers, operations leadership, and subcontractors to develop accurate, competitive estimates from conceptual through final bid stages.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for heavy civil projectsAnalyze plans, specifications, soil reports, and bid documentsSolicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricingAssist with bid strategy, value engineering, and risk assessmentDevelop conceptual and detailed estimates for earthwork, utilities, drainage, concrete, and roadway scopesMaintain estimating databases, cost histories, and pricing assumptionsSupport pre-bid meetings and internal estimate reviewsProject Types May IncludeRoadway and highway constructionSite development and mass earthworkUnderground utilities and drainage systemsStructural concrete and civil infrastructure improvementsQualifications3-5 years of estimating experience in heavy civil constructionWorking knowledge of civil means and methodsAbility to read and interpret construction plans and specificationsExperience with estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, Bid2Win, Agtek, or similar preferred)Strong attention to detail and organizational skillsDegree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred, but not requiredWhat's OfferedCompetitive compensation based on experienceStable backlog of regional workExposure to a wide range of civil infrastructure projectsGrowth opportunities within preconstruction and operationsCompany vehicle or allowance (role-dependent)Benefits package including health insurance, PTO, and retirement options
