Job Description

Do you hear a knock in a diesel engine and already know the fix before the hood is open? Action Excavation is hiring an experienced Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic to keep our fleet running strong. If you take pride in your work and understand that downtime costs everyone, we want you on our team. Responsibilities Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, undercarriage components, and drive train systems Perform preventative and scheduled maintenance on excavators, dozer, grader, skid steers, and haul trucks Troubleshoot electrical and electronic control systems on modern heavy equipment Respond to field breakdowns and minimize equipment downtime Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment Accurately document all service and repair work performed Build and assemble machines or mechanical components according to requirements Inspect machines, engines, transmissions etc. and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner Perform thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment and systems Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or vehicle users Undertake other duties as assigned (e.g. repair of hydraulic systems, painting vehicles etc.) Keep logs of work and report on issues Skills 3+ years of hands-on experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic Solid working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and related systems Ability to use diagnostic tools and software Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently in both shop and field settings Valid driver's license required; CDL a plus Must provide own hand tools A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines Very good communication skills A problem-solving ability Very good physical strength and stamina High school diploma is preferred; Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is a definite plus Pay based upon experience.
