Job Description
THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION

Shop 11 Shipfitter Lays out, fabricates, installs, removes, and repairs structural parts on ships and support equipment in accordance with blueprints. 2. Shop 17 Sheet Metal Mechanic Manufactures, installs, repairs, and modifies complex ventilation systems, furniture, light gage bulkheads, lockers, and doors on submarines, surface craft, and in shop. 3. Shop 26 Welder Joins and cuts industrial and marine metals using complex welding and thermal cutting processes during the overhaul, repair, and modernization of submarines and surface craft. 4. Shop 31 Machinist Manufacture/refurbish ship parts/components using machinery such as lathes, milling machines, boring machines, drilling presses, and computer numerical controlled machines. 5. Shop 31 Rubber Worker Assist in the Manufacturing of various rubber products to support repairs on Vessels. 6. Shop 38 Marine Machinery Mechanic Remove, test, overhaul, and repair the main propulsion machinery, pumps, valves, steam turbines, engines, pumps, and propeller shafts on submarines and surface craft. 7. Shop 51 Electrician Assist journey level Electrician Mechanics in removal/install, alignment, repair, overhaul, and testing a variety of ships components that include ship's main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery, deck machinery, ordnance machinery, hydraulic machinery, fluid systems, laundry, galley, and machine shop equipment. 8. Shop 52 Electronics Measurement Equipment Mechanic Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, overhauls, modifies, tests, aligns, measures, and calibrates complex electrical/electronic/electro-mechanical/physical-dimensional/ mechanical test instruments and equipment. 9. Shop 67 Electronics Assist journey level Electronics Mechanics in the removal, troubleshooting, repair, modification, installation, testing and calibration of shipboard electronic equipment, components and testing. 10. Shop 06 Toolroom Assure the proper quality tools are available to allow workers to safely, efficiently and effectively accomplish assigned tasks. Perform periodic maintenance, overhaul, troubleshoot, repair and test hand held and portable power tools and mechanical/electrical equipment. 11. Shop 06 Production Machinery Mechanic Executes a comprehensive equipment maintenance program to ensure support needs are continuously met; installs and removes shop equipment. 12. Shop 06 Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic Executes a comprehensive equipment maintenance program to ensure support needs are continuously met. Uses the latest technology to troubleshoot, repair, align, and test Computer Numerical Controlled equipment such as mills, lathes, electric discharge machines, and water jet cutting machines. 13. Shop 06 Electrician Assist journey level Electrician Mechanics in constructing, installing, maintaining and repairing various electrical wiring systems, electrical controls, electrically controlled equipment or instruments and electrical machinery. 14. Shop 56 Air Conditioning Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs air conditioning and refrigeration systems aboard submarines, surface crafts, and ashore to include, but not limited to chillers, refrigeration plants, dehumidifiers, and dehydrators. 15. Shop 56 Pipefitter Remove, repair, install, test/flush, and silver braze piping to all propulsion, auxiliary, and weapons systems aboard submarines and surface craft. Manufacture, install, repair, maintain, and remove all ship-to-shore temporary piping services. 16. Shop 57 Insulator Measures, fabricates, removes, and installs insulation materials on steam turbines, distillation plants, refrigeration plants, ventilation ducts, and other submarine or surface craft piping and component systems to prevent heat loss, minimize condensation, and protect personnel from extreme temperatures. 17. Shop 64 Shipwright Install, maintain, modify and remove all staging associated with ship work. Use transits and levels to establish working lines and reference points. Check vessel alignment during docking evolution. Construct docking blocks and shoring. 18. Shop 64 Plastic Fabricator Removes, lays out, manufactures, and reinstalls hull insulation. Fabricates acrylic and polycarbonate plastic sheets and round stock. Installs laminate composites to wood and metal items. Prepares, lays out, and installs Terrazzo, vinyl tile, rubber matting, carpet, and ceramic tile flooring on decking. 19. Shop 64 Fabric Worker Plans, designs, lays out, constructs, and installs containments using clear PVC sheeting, Herculite, and other flexible materials. Reupholsters furniture manufactures tool bags, banners, tents, leather articles, items of canvas, Naugahyde, Herculite, and linen. 20. Shop 71 Maintenance Worker Handles hazardous Waste, Equipment Cleaning and Equipment Pump Operations on submarines, surface crafts and in shore facilities. Removes and replaces sludge tanks from boat or an area of operations, properly transfers, samples and dispose of waste 21. Shop 71 Painter Prepare surfaces for paints by sandblasting, and sanding. Apply paints, powder coating, or flame spray to preserve metal, wood, or sheet metal surfaces using paint brushes, spray pumps, and/or rollers. 22. Shop 99 Temporary Services Electrical Construct, remove/install, test, troubleshoot, maintain and repair various electrical wiring systems and components, electrical controls, electrically operated equipment or instruments. Install, maintain and remove temporary electrical and casualty control systems. 23. Shop 99 Temporary Services Pipefitter Assist journey level Pipefitter with installing, repairing, and modifying utility distribution systems providing air, water and steam services as well as water supply, liquid waste and similar utility systems and equipment to ships and dockside industrial operations. 24. Shop 99 Waste Management Worker Receive, collect, handle, transport, store, package, process, dispose, and ship nuclear and mixed hazardous materials and wastes from nuclear ships and submarines, and special projects. 25. Shop 99 Industrial Equipment Mechanic Assist journey level Industrial Equipment Mechanic with overhauls, operating repairs, operational maintenance, troubleshooting and security checks on stationary equipment on various graving docks, floating docks, and caissons. 26. Shop 99 Gas Detection Monitor Assist journey level Gas Detection Monitor in performing duties associated with environmental evaluations; assists in conducting atmospheric tests to detect the presence of hazardous elements of combustible gases, vapors, and toxic substances for evidence of oxygen deficiencies or enrichment. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
