Job Description

Hemp Extraction Operator - nights 1.6 1.6 out of 5 stars Geneva, AL 36340 From $17.50 an hour - Full-time Samson Extracts 5 reviews From $17.50 an hour - Full-time About Samson Extracts Samson Extracts is a hemp processing and manufacturing company focused on producing high-quality cannabinoid ingredients for wholesale customers. Our extraction department is a critical part of our operation, converting biomass into crude oil through a controlled, data-driven production process. We are looking for a high-caliber Hemp Extraction Operator who brings a science, engineering, and problem-solving mindset to the production floor. This is not just an equipment operator position. We are looking for someone who wants to understand the process, monitor performance, identify inefficiencies, and help improve output, recovery, consistency, and safety. Position Summary The Hemp Extraction Operator will support daily extraction operations, including biomass preparation, ethanol extraction, solvent recovery, crude production, cleaning, documentation, and coordination with production, quality, maintenance, and leadership teams. This role is ideal for someone who is mechanically inclined, technically curious, highly accountable, and comfortable working with process data. The right candidate will understand that extraction performance depends on controlled inputs, equipment performance, accurate measurements, disciplined documentation, and constant attention to yield, recovery, safety, and quality. Key Responsibilities Operate and assist with equipment used in hemp extraction and crude production, and related processing steps. Follow cGMP procedures, SOPs, batch records, safety protocols, and supervisor direction with accuracy and consistency. Monitor key process variables such as biomass input, solvent usage, flow rates, temperatures, pressures, transfer volumes, run times, recovery rates, and equipment performance. Assist with tracking production performance by lot, including expected versus actual outputs, crude yield, potency, CBD recovery, and extraction efficiency. Support efforts to improve extraction efficiency, reduce losses, and identify where yield is being lost across production stages. Accurately complete batch records, production logs, cleaning records, equipment checklists, inventory documentation, and other required paperwork in real time. Weigh, stage, transfer, label, and track biomass, ethanol, crude oil, and other production materials. Assist with equipment setup, startup, operation, shutdown, cleaning, changeover, and basic troubleshooting. Communicate equipment issues, process deviations, safety concerns, unusual readings, leaks, losses, or quality concerns immediately. Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and inspection-ready extraction area. Work closely with Quality, Maintenance, and Production leadership to ensure materials are properly documented, traceable, and ready for downstream processing. Support process improvement projects related to throughput, efficiency, solvent recovery, crude yield, documentation accuracy, and production consistency. Follow all PPE, chemical handling, lockout/tagout, hot work, confined space, and equipment safety requirements. Participate in training, root-cause discussions, and continuous improvement activities as needed. What We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who thinks beyond the task in front of them.
The ideal candidate is:
Mechanically inclined and comfortable around pumps, valves, hoses, tanks, filters, evaporators, and production equipment. Interested in science, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, or process optimization. Able to understand cause and effect in a production process. Comfortable working with numbers, measurements, weights, volumes, percentages, and production data. Curious enough to ask why a process performed better or worse than expected. Disciplined enough to follow SOPs exactly and document work accurately. Safety-minded, especially when working around ethanol, production equipment, pressure, heat, and moving materials. Reliable, punctual, and serious about attendance and accountability. Calm under pressure and capable of making good decisions in a production environment. Willing to learn, take feedback, and grow into a stronger technical operator. Motivated by improving performance, not just completing a shift. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Prior experience in manufacturing, production, extraction, chemical processing, food/beverage, pharmaceutical, agriculture, industrial maintenance, or a similar technical environment preferred. Ability to read, understand, and follow SOPs, batch records, and written work instructions. Basic math skills, including weights, volumes, percentages, unit conversions, and production quantities. Ability to accurately record production data and complete documentation. Ability to work safely around ethanol, chemicals, equipment, pumps, tanks, hoses, heat, pressure, and moving materials. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials as required by the role. Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs or ladders, and work on the production floor for extended periods. Willingness to wear required PPE and comply with all company safety procedures. Must be dependable, coachable, and able to pass any company-required pre-employment screening. Preferred Qualifications Experience with hemp, cannabis, botanical extraction, ethanol extraction, solvent recovery, crude oil production, or chemical processing. Experience with falling film evaporators, rotary evaporators, centrifuges, filters, pumps, tanks, chillers, boilers, or process utilities. Familiarity with cGMP, batch records, lot traceability, COAs, controlled documentation, and production quality systems. Experience reading gauges, monitoring process variables, and documenting production data. Mechanical troubleshooting experience. Forklift or pallet jack experience. OSHA, GMP, food safety, HACCP, chemical handling, or similar training. Associate degree, technical certification, or coursework in chemistry, biology, engineering, industrial technology, manufacturing, or a related field is a plus. Physical and Work Environment Requirements Work takes place in a production and extraction environment. Must be able to follow safety procedures around ethanol, process equipment, tanks, pumps, hoses, heating systems, cooling systems, and production materials. Must be able to wear required PPE, which may include gloves, eye protection, protective clothing, respiratory protection, or other task-specific safety equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to stand for long periods and perform repetitive physical tasks. May be exposed to manufacturing noise, odors, temperature changes, cleaning agents, ethanol, production materials, and process equipment. Must not enter tanks, vessels, pits, or confined spaces unless properly trained, authorized, and directed under company safety procedures.
