Qualifications:
Have a valid, current Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board Cosmetology License as well as a valid, current Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board Cosmetology and Instructor's License At least five (5) years recent documented work experience in the teaching area (Cosmetology) and Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university Hold a teaching license or certificate issued by the State of Ohio appropriate to subject assignment Computer technology skills as necessary for the position Good health, attendance, and high moral character Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents, fellow employees, and the community Pass BCI and FBI records check and/or other district pre-employment requirements The employee may not be under the influence of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District Essential Functions may include any of the following tasks: Implement the program-area curriculum based on approved courses of study, State Board requirements, and prevailing occupational standards Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values Participate in developing the instructional program including creating and writing scope and sequence documents for curriculum and mapping, selection of instructional materials, preparation of daily lessons, and evaluations of student progress Focus on the teaching and developing plans for the following curriculum:
  • Microbiology/Infection Control
  • Trichology
  • Hair Cutting and Styling
  • Fundamentals of Chemical Services
  • Human Services Capstone Responsible for total compliance with Ohio Cosmetology and Barber Board guidelines including annual and surprise visits Develop and administer an effective safety program Organize content knowledge for student learning; use research-based methods for instruction Create an environment for student learning that promotes fairness, maintains consistent standards of classroom behavior, and communicates challenging learning expectations Monitor students' understanding of content; make instructional procedures and learning goals clear; promote critical thinking; use instructional time effectively Effectively keep accurate record of student hours to report to State Board Coordinate and oversee and internship program following State Board guidelines Lead senior students on Salon Days including scheduling clients, overseeing client services, and taking client payment Monitor, report on, and assist students on IEPs, 504s, and with specific learning needs Communicate with parents or guardians about student learning Demonstrate professionalism in self-reflection and relationships with colleagues Establish annual goals to improve professional performance and student achievement Use appropriate technology to enhance the teaching and learning process Develop program budget requests Ensure the safety and security of the classroom, instructional materials, and instructional equipment Provide leadership to the instructional program through an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) and participation in professional organizations including OCCTA Submit grades as required for students Maintain annual inventories of supplies and equipment as requested Complete reports as required Coordinate an active program advisory committee that represents all aspects of an industry and supports non-traditional membership Assist in receiving and maintaining industry accreditation for the program if required Maintain individual student competency lists Assist with career guidance and job placement for students; promote good work habits and attitudes in employer/employee relationships Coordinate program participation in vocational student organization skill contests Maintain compliance with Ohio's "Professional Conduct For Educators" standards Perform other duties as requested by district administrators Working Conditions may include any of the following: Use of keyboards and exposure to computer screens Use of electrical equipment Possible exposure to body fluids Possible exposure to sharp instruments Possible exposure to airborne particles Light physical exertion in moving items, lifting, and reaching
