JOB DESCRIPTION
Head Track Coach The Track Coach will be responsible for all aspects of the program including specific techniques, skills, drills, strategies, and philosophy of Track. Following the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) and Springfield Platteview Community Schools guidelines, this coach will also coordinate assistant coaches, volunteers, practices and all other administrative duties tied to the Track Team.
Education/Experience/Certifications:
Certified as a teacher or complete requirements for a Special Services certificate from the NDE Experience working with students in an instructional setting Previous coaching experience in any sport preferred but not required Criminal background check required for hire CPR, First Aid and AED certification required before coaching assignment begins Complete required trainings upon hire: Concussion in sports, Blood Borne Pathogens, Heat Illness and Sudden Cardiac Emergencies, Child Abuse and Reporting, and Sexual Harrassment
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Communicate and demonstrate sportsmanship with all athletes, parents & officials Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job Customer service and public relations skill Comprehensive knowledge of the sport Ability and willingness to adhere attendance requirements, including regular and punctual and punctual employee attendance Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, recognize and respond to unsafe weather, utilize appropriate equipment and report any unsafe conditions to the appropriate school administrator Act as a positive role model and representative of SPCS
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Organize, supervise and lead practice sessions focusing on the development of the skills necessary, while ensuring students are properly equipped and are safe at all times Supervise assistant coaches and volunteers Attend and monitor all practices and meets Conduct administrative duties such as inventory of equipment, budget, transportation, assistant coach certifications, eligibility requirements and academic progress of student athletes Communicate to student athletes and parents expectations including practice schedule and games, as well as academic performance, respect , commitment, dedication and sportsmanship Demonstrate fairness and consistency in all decisions and judgements related to the participants Follow all NSAA and SPCS and sports guidelines Attend mandatory meetings, required trainings and other clinics or conferences to keep up with the requirements and trends in the sport of Wrestling. Coordinate and communicate with administration regarding budget, transportation, equipment and practice schedules, locations, times, roster, locker room supervision and transportation to events. Communicate discipline procedures and problems, safety concerns and all student injuries requiring emergency medical services to school administration. Lead the K-12 development of assigned program. This includes but is not limited to working with local clubs and organizations in the development of assigned program, building relationships with youth coaches in assigned sport and offering camps and clinics in support of local youth development. Actively support and promote the strength and conditioning program. This includes, but is not limited to, being involved in strength and conditioning activities, encouraging athletes to take part in strength and conditioning year round, communicating regularly with strength and conditioning staff, etc. Lead program in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to player safety and welfare. Perform other duties as assigned.
Season:
Spring Sport 5 practices per week Season to consist of Dual, Triangular, and Invitational Competitions Expectations of All PHS Coaches/Sponsors Trojan Activities Mission Statement To pursue excellence daily through character and education-based activities that: 1) are not solely defined by a scoreboard or rating sheet; 2) demonstrate a commitment to respect, the spirit of competitive fair play and the ideals of sportsmanship; 3) are aligned with the mission, values and policies of SPCS and the NSAA; 4) are led by coaches/sponsors that are committed to such ideals; and 5) are participated in by students with an understanding of their role in representing SPCS, their school, their team and their community.
Leadership:
All sponsors/coaches will provide effective leadership and demonstrate professionalism in the operation of an extracurricular program that accentuates the development of positive character traits in all participants. Possible indicators include but are not limited to: organization/operating skills, proper preparation and instruction, professional dress, meeting professional requirements, developing and issuing a program handbook or set of guidelines/rules to all participants and parents, conducting a pre-activity meeting for parents and participants.
Technical Knowledge and Professional Growth:
The sponsor will demonstrate the technical knowledge and a commitment to personal growth in leading an extracurricular program that achieves the fullest potential of each participant and his/her program. Possible indicators include but are not limited to maintaining current knowledge and best practices of the activity, affecting the morale of the organization through positive daily interactions, showing an ability to motivate a group to achieve a collective goal, development and growth of the activity across the K-12 community in SPCS.
Development and Growth of Student Participants and Collaborative Programs:
The sponsor will operate the extracurricular activity in a manner that promotes growth in every participant, demonstrates a commitment to the educational mission of SPCS, emphasizes effective communication with all appropriate constituents, and supports other activities within the extracurricular program. Possible indicators include but are not limited to prompt communication with all stakeholders, a positive working relationship with other sponsors, district staff and administration, effective plans and organization for any group travel, maintaining a program that balances extracurriculars with maintaining student success in the classroom by encouraging academic help and support for participants when needed.
