05/18/2026 This is a full-time (260-day) High School Office Secretary which falls under the Support Staff contract. This position will begin on or after June 22, 2026.
Responsibilities:
The High School Office Secretary serves as a key point of contact in the front office, providing clerical and administrative support to both staff and visitors. This role is responsible for managing incoming calls, greeting guests, and assisting with day-to-day office operations. Success in this position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Job Overview:
The Palmyra Area School District is seeking a High School Office Secretary for our District. This position works 260-days (year-round) per year. Here are some of the essential job duties and functions:
Front Office Management:
Answers the door, greets and screens visitors in a courteous and professional manner. Manages the sign-in/sign-out process for staff and visitors, ensuring building safety protocols are followed.
Communication and Phone Support:
Answers incoming phone calls, provides information, and directs calls to the appropriate personnel or department. Assists with school-wide communication, including distributing messages and announcements.
Mail and Supply Management:
Sorts and distributes incoming mail and packages to appropriate staff and departments.
Document Preparation and Distribution:
Maintains and makes available pertinent documents (e.g., school policies, event calendars, permission slips, and health forms) to parents, ensuring accessibility through physical copies and/or digital platforms.
Substitute and Timesheet Coordination:
Manages substitute coverage scheduling and record keeping using Frontline. Assigns building substitutes as needed to fill in for teachers and staff, ensuring smooth operation of classrooms and duties at the high school.
Student Services Support:
Answers general questions from students and supervises use of office phone. Calls individual students to the office as needed.
General Administrative Support:
Provides general clerical support to the Building Principal and other school staff as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal to support the smooth operation of the school.
Additional duties:
Coordinates bell schedule, updates electronic sign at the front of the building, assists with attendance responsibilities, coordinates office holiday decorating and manages kitchen operations for the office.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience in a school or educational setting is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and student information systems (e.g., PowerSchool). Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently, multitask, and manage time effectively. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Additional Information:
Working hours for this position are 7:00 AM
  • 3:00 PM, Monday
  • Friday. During the summer the working hours are 6:00 AM
  • 4:00 PM, Monday
  • Thursday. Clerical I
  • Minimum starting rate of $17.26, midpoint $21.32, and maximum $25.38 per hour – credit will be given for relevant experience. If you do not have direct experience in schools, the highest starting rate will be $21.32 per hour. Clerical II
  • Minimum starting rate of $18.27, midpoint $23.35, and maximum $28.42 per hour – credit will be given for relevant experience. District paid health benefits
