Overview The Yards is seeking an experienced, energetic, and service-driven Director of Golf to lead all aspects of our golf operation in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The Director of Golf will be responsible for the overall leadership, organization, and performance of the Golf Department, including daily golf operations, team development, member and guest experience, tournaments and events, programming, retail operations, outside services, and financial performance. The Yards is a unique sports and social facility offering golf, tennis, pickleball, dining, events, and membership experiences. Our Director of Golf should understand that golf is an important part of a larger operation and be comfortable collaborating across departments to create a welcoming, engaging, and well-run experience for members and guests. The ideal candidate is a visible, hands-on leader who takes ownership of the operation, develops strong relationships with members and staff, mentors their team while holding them accountable, and continuously looks for opportunities to improve the golf experience and grow participation. Experience Required Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and hold a golf operations team accountable. Strong commitment to member and guest service. Ability to professionally resolve member and guest concerns and make sound operational decisions. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and consistent follow-through. Experience managing golf operations, tee sheets, pace of play, outside services, golf carts, practice facilities, tournaments, outings, and golf programming. Knowledge of budgeting, labor management, expense control, revenue generation, inventory management, purchasing, and retail merchandising. Experience developing leagues, clinics, tournaments, outings, instructional programs, and other initiatives designed to increase golf participation. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and collaborating with multiple departments. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, POS systems, tee sheet platforms, and other golf operations technology. PGA membership or PGA Associate status strongly preferred; but not a requirement Bachelor's degree, PGM degree, or equivalent professional experience preferred. Previous golf operations leadership experience required. Private club, semi-private, resort, public, or high-volume golf facility experience preferred. Experience hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and supervising golf operations employees. Golf instruction and player development experience preferred. Essential Responsibilities Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of The Yards Golf Department. Provide a visible leadership presence throughout the golf operation and build strong relationships with members, guests, employees, and community partners. Oversee the golf shop, tee sheet, starter functions, outside operations, cart operations, practice facilities, tournaments, outings, and overall golf experience. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, develop, coach, and evaluate Golf Department employees. Establish clear expectations and accountability throughout the Golf Department while creating a positive and professional team culture. Maintain appropriate staffing levels based on business volume, tournaments, events, and seasonal demand. Ensure the golf operation consistently delivers a welcoming, organized, efficient, and high-quality member and guest experience. Manage tee sheet utilization and identify opportunities to improve rounds, participation, pace of play, and golf-related revenue. Develop and execute golf programming, including leagues, tournaments, clinics, member events, outings, instructional opportunities, and player-development programs. Build programming that appeals to golfers of different skill levels and encourages continued participation within The Yards golf community. Support the growth of outside tournaments, corporate outings, charity events, and other golf-related events. Coordinate tournament and outing operations from planning through execution to ensure a professional experience for organizers and participants. Oversee golf shop merchandising, purchasing, receiving, displays, inventory control, and cost of goods. Maintain appropriate retail inventory levels and identify opportunities to improve merchandise sales and profitability. Develop, manage, and monitor the Golf Department's annual operating budget. Monitor golf revenue, labor, expenses, retail performance, inventory, rounds, tournament revenue, and other key operational metrics. Identify opportunities to grow golf-related revenue while maintaining appropriate expense and labor controls. Maintain proper procedures for POS transactions, cash handling, inventory, purchasing, and other Golf Department financial controls. Work closely with the General Manager on departmental goals, staffing, financial performance, member feedback, programming, and long-term golf strategy. Collaborate with Golf Course Maintenance regarding course conditions, tournament setup, practice facilities, cart traffic, signage, and member or guest feedback. Coordinate with Food & Beverage and Events to support tournaments, outings, member programming, and other golf-related hospitality opportunities. Collaborate with Marketing to promote golf programming, tournaments, leagues, events, instruction, and other initiatives. Work collaboratively with The Yards' tennis, pickleball, membership, events, retail, and hospitality teams to support the overall member experience. Maintain clean, organized, and professional golf shop, cart staging, outside operations, and practice facility areas. Ensure golf carts, range equipment, operational equipment, retail fixtures, and other Golf Department assets are properly maintained and organized. Administer and enforce facility policies, golf rules, dress standards, pace-of-play expectations, and established operating procedures. Maintain appropriate safety standards throughout all golf operations. Respond professionally and promptly to member and guest questions, concerns, and feedback. Communicate regularly with the General Manager regarding departmental performance, staffing needs, operational challenges, and opportunities for improvement. Leadership Expectations The Director of Golf is expected to be more than an administrator of the Golf Department. This individual should be an active leader within The Yards/Ponte Vedra & Greater Jacksonville community. Success in this position requires someone who is comfortable being visible, building relationships, developing employees, communicating with members, solving problems, and taking ownership of both the small details and the larger direction of the golf operation. The Director of Golf should bring ideas to the table, identify opportunities to improve the operation, and help continue developing The Yards as a golf destination and community within the Ponte Vedra Beach market.
